This is an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian who is passionate about exotic animal medicine and enjoys working in a collaborative, high-acuity environment.\nOur Exotics team provides emergency, urgent, and scheduled care for a diverse range of species, including small exotic companion mammals, birds, reptiles, and wildlife. You’ll have the opportunity to manage challenging and rewarding cases while working alongside experienced veterinary technicians, specialists, interns, and residents.\nWhat You’ll Do\nProvide emergency, urgent, and scheduled care for exotic species.\nPerform triage, diagnostics, medical management, and treatment planning for a diverse exotic caseload.\nProvide primary medical care for exotic patients hospitalized in the ICU.\nPerform anesthesia and basic surgical procedures across a wide variety of species.\nDevelop individualized diagnostic and treatment plans and communicate clearly with clients about their pets’ care.\nCollaborate with other specialty services and our emergency and critical care teams to provide comprehensive patient care.\nSupport patient transfers and coordinate care with referring veterinarians when appropriate.\nTeach and mentor interns, residents, externs, and early-career veterinarians.\nPresent case rounds and share your expertise in exotic animal medicine throughout the year.\nParticipate in our Third Thursday lecture rotation, rounds, and grand rounds.\nWork with wildlife and regulatory organizations, including the Bird Alliance of Oregon, ODFW, WDFW, and USFWS.\nParticipate in hospital committees and other opportunities that support the DoveLewis community.\nBuild relationships with referring veterinarians and represent DoveLewis within the veterinary community and the public.\nContinue developing your skills through continuing education and professional development.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nWe’re looking for a veterinarian who brings strong clinical skills, sound judgment, and a genuine passion for exotic animal medicine. The ideal candidate will have:\nA DVM/VMD or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school, or ECFVG certification.\nCurrent or eligible Oregon veterinary licensure.\nExperience practicing exotic animal medicine, including small exotic companion mammals, birds such as parrots and backyard poultry, reptiles, and wildlife.\nStrong diagnostic, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills.\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills.\nAn interest in teaching and mentoring other members of the veterinary team.\nThe ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency, critical care, and specialty environment.\nA compassionate approach to patient care, animal welfare, and client communication.\nCompletion of an internship or advanced training in exotic pet medicine, wildlife, or zoological medicine is preferred.
