The name ‘Te Ara o Te Ata’ was gifted to the NZ Transport Agency by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Tama to seal their partnership agreement.\nTe kōwhiringa | The Opportunity\nAs a major part of the environmental mitigation associated with the construction of the road, the NZ Transport Agency are required to undertake intensive pest management in perpetuity over 3650 square ha of native forest adjacent to the new road. This work builds on and expands on the pest management that has been undertaken by Ngāti Tama for the past decade to protect the Mauri of this significant coastal forest.\nWe are seeking a Pest Management Area Technical Coordinator to support the successful delivery of pest management activities throughout the designated area. Reporting to the Pest Management (PM) Leadership team, responsibilities will a variety of work associated with the monitoring of pest control effectiveness, and operations performance, procurement of permits, licences and authorities as required, determination of biodiversity hot spots for priority treatment, organisation and participation in biodiversity outcome monitoring and trialling new and innovative pest management techniques.\nThe position will serve as key support role to the PMA Operations Manager and will assist the programme in achieving and maintaining effective high-intensity pest control. The role requires field and office-based work as well as working both individually and as part of a wider team.\nNga pūkenga matua | Important Skills\nWe are looking for a self-starter who is highly organised with strong communication skills, plenty of initiative an attention to detail. You will also have:\nKnowledge of and experience with large scale mammalian pest management in New Zealand forest.\n\nBroad knowledge and field experience in practical conservation management and the science of biodiversity conservation.\n\nGIS skills, map building, land management, project development.\n\nSkill with introducing and managing Technology into pest management programmes.\n\nPest density and biodiversity field monitoring techniques and survey data analysis.\n\nGood organisation and communication skills.\n\nCompetent in the bush with knowledge of bush craft and health and safety protocols.\n\nReport writing skills.\n\nDegree qualified with environmental science degree or similar preferred.\n\nKnowledge of pest management field operations and experience with the practical use of a wide range of traps and pest toxins.\n\nCLS licence preferable.\n\nKo te take ka parekareka e koe ki te mahi ki kōnei | Why you will enjoy working here\nDowner is committed to delivering excellence by ensuring our people have the environment and the means to be successful.
