Our forwarding division is now established in the UK and primed for growth.\nThe Ocean Freight Import Operator role is essential in managing and coordinating ocean freight import operations from origin to final delivery. This role ensures timely, efficient, and compliant movement of goods while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational excellence.\nOur ideal candidate will have experience in ocean freight imports, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to logistics coordination.\nLocation: Sale, Manchester\nHours: Monday - Friday\nContract: Permanent\nAbout the Role\nHow you will contribute:\nCoordinate and monitor inbound ocean freight shipments from booking to final delivery.\nPrepare and process documentation including bills of lading, arrival notices, customs clearance paperwork, and delivery orders.\nCommunicate effectively with agents, shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, delivery points, and customers.\nTrack shipments and proactively manage exceptions and delays.\nSubmit accurate import declarations to HMRC via the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).\nVerify and process supplier invoices.\nMaintain accurate shipment records and update internal systems.\nResolve discrepancies related to shipments, documentation, or billing.\nLiaise with internal teams (sales, transport) to support operational flow.\nDeliver excellent customer service and provide timely status updates.\nEnsure compliance with UK import regulations and internal procedures.\nWhat you will bring\nQualifications\nGCSEs (Level 2 or equivalent) required.\nA degree in Logistics, International Trade, or Supply Chain is an advantage.\nBIFA IFF Apprenticeship or other freight-related qualifications preferred.\nExperience\nMinimum 3 years in ocean freight import operations, ideally within freight forwarding or logistics.\nExperience with both LCL (Less than Container Load) and FCL (Full Container Load) shipments.\nSkills\nExcellent organizational and multitasking abilities.\nStrong communication and problem-solving skills.\nHigh attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.\nAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.\nKnowledge\nSolid understanding of INCOTERMS, ocean freight documentation, and UK customs import regulations including CDS.\nFamiliarity with customs processes and tariff classification.\nExperience using logistics systems such as CNS/Destin8 and ASM Sequoia.\nCompensation\nDP World offers exciting and challenging roles within a growing international organization.
