At DPD UK we also aim to deliver the best service, use the best technology and recruit and retain the best people in the industry.\nDPD is a Valuable 500 company and a Disability Confident Employer.\n We are currently recruiting an experienced and highly motivated Yard Technician to join our team of highly skilled technicians.\nAs the successful Yard Technician, you will report to the VMU Manager and be part of the team responsible for inspecting, servicing, maintaining, and repairing the DPD HGV fleet, made up of approximately 1500 tractor units and 3000 trailers.\nYou will ensure that the fleet is maintained to the highest standard of safety, is fully compliant with DVSA regulations, and remains operationally efficient by minimising vehicle downtime.\nWorking in a time-critical parcel distribution environment, your key accountabilities will include;\nPerforming routine scheduled safety inspections in accordance with DVSA requirements.\n\nDiagnostics and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults on the various vehicles within the DPD fleet\n\nCompleting repairs and replacements on components, including:\nEngines and transmissions\n\nBrake systems\n\nSuspension systems\n\nSteering systems\n\nElectrical systems and diagnostics\n\nExhaust and emission systems\n\nPreparing vehicles to a high standard for MOT testing and ensuring all compliance standards are met.\n\nMaintaining accurate service records, defect reports, and inspection documentation.\n\nEnsuring vehicles meet road safety regulations and legal compliance standards.\n\nUsing diagnostic equipment and software to conduct systematic fault identification and efficiently resolve mechanical and electrical faults in modern HGV systems.\n\nMaintain a clean, organised and safe workshop environment in accordance with health and safety standards.\n\nEnsure tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems are maintained and used correctly.\n\nWorking collaboratively with other technicians, VMU technical operatives and management\n\n Proven experience working within a similar Heavy Goods or Heavy Plant role.\n\nHold relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and repair (or equivalent).\n\nAn up-to-date knowledge of the guide to maintaining roadworthiness.\n\nStrong knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanical, electrical and braking systems.\n\nBe a team player who can also work independently.\n\nAbility to read technical manuals, diagnostic reports and repair manuals.\n\nExcellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.\n\nGood organisational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.\n\nShow a strong commitment to Health, Safety and compliance standards.\n\nDemonstrate the core values of DPD's DNA: Passion, Respect, Honesty, Flexibility, Caring and Accountability\n\n About our Benefits\nWe recognise that our people are at the heart of our business, without them we wouldn’t be able to deliver our award-winning service to millions of customers across the country each day.
