To achieve this, we are developing a new type of aircraft, one that is remotely-piloted, extremely fuel efficient and can land nearly anywhere. It can transport up to 350 kg over 2,500 km, saving time, cost and co2 emissions. Apart from moving goods, it can serve other critical missions such as civil protection and public safety. This is the kind of technology that can transform whole economies.\nAt first, it didn't sound possible, but we keep proving it is, which is why we've called it “The Black Swan”. It can land on short airstrips, enabling on-demand point-to-point flights and autonomous logistics even to the most remote locations that would otherwise take days to reach over ground or sea.\nWe are starting with domestic air networks in Europe, bringing back to life the multitude of small airfields that are often unused, boosting local infrastructure and economies.\nRequirements\nThe Role\nIn this role, you will take ownership of system-level design, integration, and verification of our Black Swan cargo drone platform - a fixed-wing UAS capable of carrying 350 kg over 2,500 km. You will work across disciplines including avionics, propulsion, structures, and ground control to ensure the overall aircraft system meets performance, safety, and certification requirements. Whether your background is in manned aircraft, helicopters, or unmanned systems, what matters is a strong aerospace engineering foundation and the ability to think holistically about complex vehicle-level problems in a fast-paced development environment.\nThe Responsibilities:\nLead system-level architecture definition, requirements decomposition, and interface management for the UAS platform across all major subsystems (airframe, propulsion, avionics, GCS, datalinks).\n\nDevelop and maintain the system requirements baseline, ensuring bidirectional traceability from top-level operational requirements down to subsystem and component specifications.\n\nCoordinate and conduct system-level trade studies, performance analyses, and risk assessments to inform design decisions and programme planning.\n\nDefine the system integration and Validation and Verification strategy.\n\nSupport the certification and type-approval process by contributing to system safety assessments (FHA, PSSA, SSA) and compliance documentation aligned with EASA and relevant UAS regulatory frameworks.\n\nManage interface control documents (ICDs) and ensure consistent integration across mechanical, electrical, software, and communications boundaries.\n\nCollaborate with flight-test and operations teams to define test objectives, support flight-test campaigns, and analyse system-level flight data.\n\nParticipate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) as the system engineering representative and ensure that review actions are tracked to closure.\n\nIdentify and manage system-level risks and issues, maintaining the programme risk register and driving mitigation activities across engineering disciplines.\n\nContribute to the continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, tools, and methods as the organisation scales toward serial production.\n\nYour Qualifications:\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.\n\n5 to 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering within the aerospace sector (manned aircraft, helicopters, or unmanned aerial systems).\n\nSolid understanding of the full aerospace development lifecycle, from conceptual design through certification and entry into service.\n\nHands-on experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Polarion).\n\nWorking knowledge of aerospace safety assessment methodologies (ARP4754A, ARP4761) and familiarity with DO-178C / DO-254 development assurance standards.\n\nExperience preparing or contributing to certification documentation for EASA, FAA, or equivalent national aviation authorities.\n\nStrong analytical skills with proficiency in system modelling, simulation, or performance analysis tools relevant to aircraft systems.\n\nDemonstrated ability to work across disciplines and coordinate technical activities among diverse engineering teams (structures, avionics, propulsion, software).\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to author clear technical documentation and present at design reviews.\n\nExperience with UAS-specific regulations and operational concepts (SORA, EASA Special Conditions, JARUS guidelines) is highly desirable but not required.\n\nExperience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches is desirable but not required.\n\nWhat We Offer:\nA competitive compensation package for a Series A company.\n\nLots of opportunities for personal and professional growth on a global level.\n\nTons of work, zero office politics - we are here to impact the lives of millions of people around the world.\n\nA once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to frame the future of how the world moves goods.\n\nLocation:\nThis role will be based in Sofia, Bulgaria.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5144,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[{"language":"English","level":"All levels","optional":false}]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"Bulgaria","iso":"BG","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Drones & UAVs"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-15T16:16:08Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":4,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.131,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":184,"expected_fill_days":24,"reasons":["conf:3","stale_co","ghost","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-16T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/dronamics-uas-system-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/dronamics-uas-system-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-16T13:29:11Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":12946,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-17T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":176371},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=176371"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fdronamics-uas-system-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fdronamics-uas-system-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fdronamics-uas-system-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/dronamics-uas-system-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fdronamics-uas-system-engineer"}]}
