DroneShield's Alexandria facility is a key manufacturing hub, supporting production, assembly, testing, and quality assurance of mission-critical counter-drone systems. \nAbout the role\nDroneShield is seeking a highly experienced Quality Engineer to join the team in Sydney, NSW. \nThe Quality Engineer partners with Design Engineering, NPI, Manufacturing Engineering and Production to ensure quality, manufacturability, reliability and compliance requirements are built into products and processes from concept through to production and sustainment to meet customer, regulatory and business requirements. \nThe role is responsible for driving proactive quality planning, non-conformance management, manufacturing readiness and Lean continuous improvement initiatives in accordance with ISO 9001, AQAP 2110, APQP and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) principles. \nResponsibilities, Duties and Expectations \nProduct Development & NPI:\nAct as the Quality representative within product development and NPI teams, participate in design reviews and provide independent quality input.\nEnsure customer, regulatory and quality requirements are translated into product and process requirements.\nEnsure quality requirements are identified and incorporated into designs, specifications and test plans.\nFacilitate design and process risk assessments, including DFMEA and PFMEA. Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and production readiness activities.\nSupport verification, validation and qualification activities.\nDevelop Product Quality Plans, Control Plans and inspection requirements.\nPromote Design for X (Manufacturability, Support, Cost, etc) principles. \nManufacturing & Production Quality: \nSupport the transition of products from development into production through Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) assessments. \nParticipate in Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs). \nDefine and validate process controls, inspection methods, measurement requirements and objective acceptance criteria. \nMonitor production quality, yield, scrap, rework, returns and customer complaints. \nAnalyse defect, yield, test, rework, scrap and reliability data to identify trends, isolate contributing factors and prioritise corrective action. \nNon-Conformance Management:\nOwn and coordinate the Non-Conformance Management process. \nReview, disposition and track internal, supplier and customer non-conformances. \nFacilitate Quality Clinic activities and support disposition decisions. \nLead structured technical investigations into product, process, supplier and field failures. \nEnsure corrective actions address verified root causes and confirm effectiveness through objective evidence, follow-up data and recurrence monitoring. \nMonitor trends in non-conformances, defects, rework and escapes andreport non-conformance performance metrics to management.\nDrive systemic improvements to prevent recurrence of quality issues. \nLean Continuous Improvement: \nChampion Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles across Engineering and Production. \nFacilitate process improvement initiatives to reduce waste, variation, rework and defects. \nSupport Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen activities and process optimisation projects. \nPromote a prevention-based quality culture focused on Right First Time outcomes. \nSupplier Quality:\nSupport supplier approval, qualification and performance management activities.\nParticipate in supplier audits and assessments. \nManage supplier corrective action requests and issue resolution. \nEnsure quality requirements are effectively flowed down through procurement documentation. \nCustomer Returns (RMA) Management:\nManage the Returned Material Authorisation (RMA) process from receipt through to closure. \nCoordinate investigation of returned products and customer complaints. \nDetermine and document failure causes and corrective actions. \nWork with Engineering, Production and Supply Chain teams to resolve product issues. \nMonitor RMA trends and identify recurring failures. \nDrive actions to reduce customer returns and improve product reliability. \nMaintain accurate records and reporting of RMA activities. \nProvide quality-related feedback from field failures into product development and manufacturing improvement activities. \nCompliance & Continuous Improvement: \nSupport compliance with ISO 9001, AQAP 2110, customer and regulatory requirements. \nAssist with internal, customer and third-party audits. \nMaintain objective evidence and quality records. \nLead continuous improvement activities focused on product quality, process capability and operational performance. \nQualifications, Experience and Skills \nDegree in Engineering, Science or related technical discipline. \nExperience in Quality Engineering within manufacturing, aerospace, defence, electronics or similar industries. \nWorking Knowledge of: ISO 9001, APQP, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action Management \nAQAP 2110 experience (desirable)\nAS9145 APQP/PPAP experience (desirable)\nLead Auditor qualification (desirable) \nLean Certification or equivalent (desirable) \nSuccess Measures \nNew products transition into production with minimal quality-related issues. \nManufacturing Readiness targets achieved on schedule. \nReduction in non-conformance rates, rework and scrap. \nImproved process capability and production yield. \nTimely closure and effectiveness of corrective actions. \nRMA investigations completed and closed within agreed timeframes. \nSuccessful audit outcomes and customer satisfaction. \nDelivery of measurable Lean and continuous improvement benefits. \nIncreased organisational focus on defect prevention and operational excellence. \nThis role acts as the quality lead across the product lifecycle, ensuring products are designed right, industrialised right and built right, while supporting business objectives for quality, delivery, cost and manufacturing readiness. \n\nNote for recruitment agencies: We do not accept unsolicited candidates from external recruiters unless specifically instructed.\nData Privacy\nDroneShield Group Pty Ltd collects and processes personal information for recruitment and hiring purposes.
