Our mechanical team designs the structures, linkages, and assemblies that make the robots real - this work moves fast and lives on the shop floor as much as it does in CAD.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Mechanical Design Engineer at Droyd, you will own mechanical subsystems from first sketch through working prototype. You will design, build, break, and iterate on real hardware.\nThis is a hands-on role. You will spend time in CAD, but also at the printer, in the shop, and on the robot, working closely with electrical, software, and robotics teams to bring systems together.\nThis role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.\nIn This Role, You'll\nDesign & Engineering\nOwn mechanical subsystem design from concept to prototype and iteration\n\nDesign parts and assemblies in CAD, supported by hand calculations and FEA when needed\n\nMake decisions on materials, tolerances, and manufacturing methods\n\nDesign for rapid prototyping methods including 3D printing and CNC machining\n\nPrototyping & Build\nBuild prototypes yourself using 3D printers, shop tools, and CNC equipment\n\nWork closely with manufacturing to turn designs into physical hardware quickly\n\nIntegration\nIntegrate mechanical designs with motors, sensors, electronics, and actuators\n\nCollaborate with electrical, software, and robotics teams to bring systems together\n\nWork Environment & Schedule\nOn-site in San Francisco, CA\n\nFull-time\n\nCompensation: $115K-$200K base salary, plus equity\nWe're Looking For Candidates Who\nHave a strong portfolio showing complete systems taken from concept to physical prototype\n\nHave experience on hands-on engineering teams such as Formula SAE, aerospace clubs, or robotics teams\n\nHave internship or early-career experience on real hardware projects or at hardware startups\n\nAre proficient with modern CAD tools\n\nUnderstand manufacturing methods, tolerancing, and assembly workflows\n\nAre comfortable with hands-on fabrication and rapid iteration\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with FEA, topology optimization, or generative design\n\nExposure to electronics, controls, or mechatronic systems\n\nInterest in industrial or visual design alongside functional engineering\n\nAbout Droyd\nDroyd builds autonomous robotic systems that operate in real production environments.
