We design and manufacture our hardware in-house, which means iteration, fabrication, and execution all happen under one roof.\nOur robots operate in production settings, which means mechanical design must be practical, manufacturable, and tightly integrated with electronics and actuation. Our mechanical team designs and builds the physical systems that make our robots work - this team spends as much time prototyping and testing as it does designing.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Droyd, you will work hands-on on real robotic hardware. You will help design, build, and iterate on mechanical subsystems that ship to production robots.\nThis is not a CAD-only role. You will be expected to prototype, test, and refine designs alongside full-time engineers.\nThis role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.\nIn This Role, You'll\nDesign & Analysis\nSupport mechanical subsystem design from concept through prototype and iteration\n\nCreate and modify CAD models for parts and assemblies\n\nHelp perform basic load calculations, testing, and analysis\n\nDesign parts for rapid prototyping methods such as 3D printing and CNC machining\n\nPrototyping & Build\nBuild and assemble prototypes using 3D printers, hand tools, and shop equipment\n\nHelp integrate mechanical designs with motors, sensors, and basic mechatronic components\n\nIterate quickly based on test results and engineering feedback\n\nDocumentation & Collaboration\nDocument designs, tests, and learnings\n\nWork alongside full-time engineers across mechanical, electrical, and software\n\nCommunicate progress, blockers, and findings clearly\n\nWork Environment & Schedule\nOn-site in San Francisco, CA\n\nPart-time or full-time internship, balanced with school commitments\n\nWe're Looking For Candidates Who\nAre current juniors or seniors (or equivalent) studying mechanical engineering or a related field\n\nHave hands-on experience from clubs, personal projects, or coursework involving physical hardware\n\nCan show examples of projects taken from concept to a physical build\n\nAre comfortable using modern CAD tools (Onshape preferred, but not required)\n\nAre willing to balance school and work in a fast-paced, build-heavy environment\n\nTake ownership, learn quickly, and enjoy working with real hardware\n\nNice to have:\nExperience with FEA, topology optimization, or generative design\n\nExposure to machining, tolerancing, or manufacturing workflows\n\nFamiliarity with electronics, motors, or control systems\n\nInterest in industrial or visual design\n\nAbout Droyd\nDroyd builds autonomous robotic systems that operate in real production environments. We design the hardware, develop the control stack, and generate the data that enables generalist robotics.\nIf we do this right, robots stop being demos and start being infrastructure.\nJoin us and help build the systems that make it real.","description_format":"text","description_chars":2955,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-13T06:56:40Z"}],"liveness":{"score":2,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.077,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":265,"expected_fill_days":21,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","ghost","win:tail","crowd:junior"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/droydrobotics-mechanical-engineer-intern","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/droydrobotics-mechanical-engineer-intern.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-01T18:55:55Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":1155,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":3845,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z"}}}
