Drug Hunter is for drug discovery scientists who want to discover new ideas but don't have time to read everything.

Are you fascinated by the way science impacts society and do you love diving deep into the scientific literature? Do you enjoy curating data and extracting insights to help advance science? If you are a curious and rigorous data enthusiast, and want to help drug discovery scientists be more effective in creating new medicines, we want to hear from you!

Drug Hunter™ (drughunter.com) is an essential scientific intelligence platform for R&D innovators turning molecules into medicines. The Drug Hunter team distills the research behind emerging drugs and technologies into concise, but scientifically rich, searchable articles and interactive features. Drug Hunter customers include many of the world’s leading innovative biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as top-tier investors.

We are seeking a rigorous data curator to join the Drug Hunter team to cover emerging drug discovery patents and other disclosures. For example, you will be responsible for triaging and curating data from scientific papers and patents, including interpreting chemical structures and biological data to surface the most important insights for our readers. The successful candidate will exhibit a high level of drug discovery scientific knowledge, with strong attention to detail and a keen focus on accuracy. An ability to interpret chemical structures and biological data is a must, as is experience reading the primary scientific and patent literature.

This role reports to a Scientific Director and is a contract, fully remote position for candidates based in North America/Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research, curation, and interpretation of scientific data from the drug discovery-related scientific and patent literature
  • Maintain high levels of rigor and accuracy in data curation and analysis, as well as the construction of databases
  • Interpretation of chemical structures and biological data
  • Contribute to data research and curation across a range of projects
  • Maintain familiarity with the biopharmaceutical industry, including an understanding of the R&D process from target discovery to commercialization, and key players in the drug discovery and development ecosystem
  • Contribute to a positive culture within the Scientific and Data teams aligned with the mission and values of the company; prioritizing facts, community, clarity, helpfulness, teamwork, and accountability

Additional Duties

  • Perform other related tasks as necessary to support the ongoing needs of Drug Hunter’s Scientific and Data teams, and associated functions

Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the employee’s location. Drug Hunter cannot provide US visa/Green Card sponsorship or related support relevant to the employee’s location.
  • Strong track record of data curation, with an understanding of the patent processes and patent databases
  • Ability to interpret chemical structures and biological data, as well as a familiarity with ChemDraw or similar chemical drawing software
  • Experience using spreadsheets, such as Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc
  • Familiarity with scientific databases and chemoinformatics resources, such as PubChem, PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, ChEMBL, SureChEMBL, etc.
  • Basic understanding of regulatory agencies and their databases (e.g., the FDA)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with both technical and non-technical audiences, including fluency in English
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative, start-up environment, working with colleagues and collaborators across disciplines, and tackling novel challenges
  • Digitally native, comfortable with social media, software, and new technologies and platforms, and eager to apply new best practices to a growing organization
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new fields of expertise quickly and work with agility in a growth environment
  • Candidates with a basic understanding of Python for data processing and automation will be preferred
  • Education and Experience
  • A B.S. or M.S. (or equivalent) in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or chemical biology
  • 3-5 years of experience focused on data curation; preference is given to candidates with experience from biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies
