You will manage assets throughout their lifecycle, developing effective preventative and predictive maintenance strategies while using data and engineering insight to identify and eliminate recurring failures.\nWorking closely with Engineering and Operations, you will help maximise equipment availability, reduce downtime, improve safety and quality, and deliver sustainable improvements across the site.\nWhat you’ll be responsible for:\nManage the asset care programme across the full equipment lifecycle, including preventative, predictive, corrective and breakdown maintenance, ensuring strategies are aligned to equipment criticality and business priorities.\nDevelop and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance strategies using OEM recommendations, RCM principles, FMEA/FMECA, PM Optimisation and condition-based monitoring.\nAnalyse maintenance and performance data to identify equipment “bad actors”, prioritise opportunities and improve asset availability, reliability and downtime performance.\nLead Root Cause Analysis and structured problem-solving activity, developing and implementing sustainable solutions to eliminate recurring failures and losses.\nWork closely with the Engineering Planner/Scheduler to ensure maintenance activities are effectively planned, scheduled and delivered, including the management of critical spares, service agreements and the maintenance calendar.\nSupport the Engineering team with CAPEX projects, engineering improvements and the implementation of maintenance best practice across the site.\nWork collaboratively with Operations, Corrugator, Conversion, Planning and Despatch teams to understand priorities and ensure engineering activity supports customer and production requirements.\nDevelop and report meaningful engineering KPIs, using data to support decision making and focus resources on the highest-priority opportunities.\nSupport the Engineering Manager in delivering site objectives and continuously improving engineering standards, processes and ways of working.\nEnsure all engineering activities meet DS Smith’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards, contributing to a safe, efficient and high-performing manufacturing environment.\nWhat we’re looking for:\nDegree qualified in an Engineering discipline or a time-served engineer with significant relevant manufacturing experience.\nProven experience in Reliability, Maintenance or Engineering, with a strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance.\nExperience using reliability and problem-solving techniques such as FMEA/FMECA, RCA, PM Optimisation and criticality analysis.\nStrong analytical skills with experience using SAP or a similar maintenance management system to analyse data and manage maintenance programmes.\nExperience of condition monitoring techniques such as thermography, vibration monitoring or similar would be advantageous.\nA proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to influence and work effectively across Engineering, Operations and wider site teams.\nA passion for reliability, continuous improvement and maintenance best practice, with the drive to deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, cost and performance.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3429,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Manufacturing","Packaging & Labeling","Packaging Design"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-28T02:34:29Z"}],"liveness":{"score":53,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.591,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":6,"expected_fill_days":13,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","velocity","win:mid","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-09-29T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/ds-smith-reliability-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/ds-smith-reliability-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-30T01:17:47Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":816,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4184,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-01T00:00:00Z"}}}
