DUAL is an international specialist underwriting group and managing general agent headquartered in London, writing commercial property, casualty, financial lines, professional indemnity, cyber, marine and construction risks on behalf of rated insurers and reinsurers. The group is part of Howden, the employee-owned international insurance group, and reports more than 1,750 people in 21 countries, over 70 product lines and about 3 billion euros of gross written premium, with a Benelux branch in Rotterdam. It hires underwriters, claims handlers, account executives, finance and accounting staff, and IT specialists, largely through the Howden group careers board.

Who are we?

Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities - work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering - you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The Role

As a Broker in our Professional Services division, you will be responsible for providing exceptional input to team meetings, sharing valuable observations from the market, and effectively resolving client issues.

What you'll do

  • Your role will involve planning work activities to achieve team objectives and meet agreed targets, ensuring flawless project management and contributing to other projects as required.

  • You will review submissions to ensure comprehensive and accurate information is presented to the market, while devising placing strategies and identifying effective product layering to meet client demands and needs.

  • Working with underwriters to place insurance that balances quality, coverage, and price will be a key aspect of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will review wordings and gather market intelligence to ensure our product offering remains up to date and relevant.

  • Developing strong relationships with markets and providing broking guidance and support for junior team members will be vital to your success. You will also respond to market and third-party queries as appropriate, while maintaining up-to-date records on the company's systems and adhering strictly to company procedures and compliance requirements for documentation and communication.

Who we're looking for

  • Proven experience in a similar or related role.

  • Excellent knowledge of the insurance market and specific product knowledge, enabling you to make informed decisions and recommendations.

  • A good understanding of regulatory and legal frameworks to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.

  • A professional approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

  • The ability to work independently, use initiative, and meet tight deadlines, showcasing your self-motivation and time management skills.

  • Calm and resilient under pressure, with the ability to positively react to change and adapt quickly to new circumstances.

  • Strong mediation and influencing skills, allowing you to effectively advocate for client needs and secure favourable outcomes.

  • A strong understanding of business operations, enabling you to align your work with broader organisational objectives.

  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) to ensure a solid foundation in core skills and A levels (desirable) to demonstrate your academic achievements and dedication to continuous learning.

  • Attainment of the LLMIT (the Lloyd's and London Market Introductory Test), where relevant to the role, indicating your comprehensive understanding of the London insurance market.

  • Working towards or having attained ACII (desirable but not crucial), showcasing your commitment to professional development and industry knowledge.

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity - there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application - if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.
