This position focuses on technical innovation, architectural excellence, and the delivery of complex software systems. As a Senior Software Engineer, this role requires significant experience in leading large-scale technical projects but does not involve direct people management. The Senior Software Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to define and execute the technology vision while driving engineering best practices across the organization.\nWHAT YOU’LL D\nServes as the technical lead for large-scale, complex software projects, ensuring architectural integrity, scalability, and performance across cloud-native systems.\n\nProvides expert guidance on software design, architecture, and implementation strategies - including cloud infrastructure architecture (Azure), containerized/orchestrated deployments (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform) - to ensure alignment with business and technical objectives.\n\nDrives technical innovation and evaluates emerging technologies, including AI-assisted and agentic development tooling, for integration into the engineering ecosystem, defining team standards for their safe and effective use.\n\nLeads the design and development of key system components, frameworks, and services that form the foundation of Duck Creek's product offerings.\n\nCollaborates with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and other Engineering teams to deliver high-quality, on-time software solutions.\n\nInfluences technical roadmaps and makes architectural decisions that support long-term scalability, maintainability, and cloud cost efficiency.\n\nEnsures adherence to software development best practices, including coding standards, automated testing, security, performance optimization, and responsible use of AI-generated code.\n\nPartners with engineering teams across the organization to solve complex technical challenges - including production infrastructure issues (cloud networking, autoscaling, deployment pipelines) - and drives engineering excellence.\n\nConducts design reviews, code reviews, and provides constructive feedback to engineering teams, applying the same scrutiny to AI-assisted contributions as to hand-written code.\n\nDevelops and maintains detailed technical documentation that supports engineering teams in delivering solutions efficiently.\n\nWorks closely with DevOps to ensure CI/CD pipelines are optimized for fast, reliable, and secure software delivery.\n\nActs as a thought leader within the engineering organization, contributing to technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and fostering a culture of technical excellence - including how AI tooling is adopted responsibly across teams.\n\nPerforms all other duties and activities as required.\n\nActs in accordance with and as a good steward of Duck Creek Technologies' mission, vision, and core values.\n\nWHAT YOU’VE DONE\nEducation and Work Experience:\nBachelor’s degree, or higher education level, or its foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Information Sciences, and/or related field\n\nTotal Work Experience: 12+ years (software development)\n\nLeadership Experience: 3 years minimum, 5 years preferred\n\nSkills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Behaviors\nExtensive experience with software architecture, design patterns, and microservices.\n\nStrong technical leadership experience on large-scale projects in a global organization.\n\nExperience with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) and their autoscaling/production operational characteristics.\n\nHands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent) and cloud platform engineering, including diagnosing infrastructure-level issues (networking, load balancing, quotas).\n\nDemonstrated experience leading teams in the adoption of AI-assisted and agentic software development practices, with a clear point of view on governance, code-review rigor, and risk management for AI-generated code.\n\nPrior experience working in a senior technical role in a global software company.\n\nIn-depth understanding of modern software development methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, and DevOps practices.\n\nProficiency in managing complex software development projects with competing priorities and deadlines.\n\nExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.\n\nExpertise in cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.\n\nKnowledge of software architecture principles, including microservices, APIs, and containerization.\n\nAbility to foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture that embraces new tooling (including AI) without compromising quality or accountability.\n\nProven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and resource planning in an engineering organization.\n\nProficiency in software development tools, such as Jira, Git, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent).\n\nCommitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and process optimization.\n\nAbility to manage conflict and resolve complex team dynamics.\n\nStrategic thinking with a focus on long-term planning and aligning engineering efforts with business goals.\n\nHigh emotional intelligence and ability to manage diverse teams effectively.\n\nAbility to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities.\n\nCORE COMPETENCIES\nOur team is built on strong core values that guide how we work and grow together.
