As part of a Vista portfolio company, you’ll work in an environment backed by deep expertise, long-term investment, and a strong commitment to building market-leading businesses and meaningful careers.\nPOSITION OVERVIEW\nThe Software Engineer I is responsible to design, code, and/or configure solutions for moderate complexity Agile stories, as well as writing automated unit and integration-level tests.\nWHAT YOU’LL Do\nDesigns, codes, and/or configures solutions for moderate complexity Agile stories with some guidance from a senior software engineer, using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation while critically validating all AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability.\n\nDebugs and resolves moderate complexity software bugs or issues, working independently to find the real root cause and provide a fix without collateral damage - applying systematic debugging practices rather than trial-and-error, including when using AI tooling to assist investigation.\n\nWrites automated unit and integration-level tests under own direction, including end-to-end test coverage using modern test automation frameworks.\n\nContributes to Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline definitions for cloud-based (Azure) deployments as part of feature delivery.\n\nMay create or support the creation of a conceptual design/architecture for small-scale software solutions with guidance from an architect or more senior developer.\n\nMay provide guidance and mentoring to more junior software engineers, including on the effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.\n\nFollows development standards and effectively demonstrates technical solutions to other software engineers in code reviews - including reviewing AI-assisted contributions with the same rigor as hand-written code.\n\nAssists in making source code management decisions for one or more teams.\n\nPerforms source code management tasks (Git-based workflows, branching, PR hygiene) without specific guidance required from other team members.\n\nPerforms other related duties and activities as required.\n\nWHAT YOU’VE DONE\nEducation and Work Experience:\nBachelor’s degree, or higher education level, or its foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Information Sciences, and/or related field\n\nTotal Work Experience: 6+ years (software development), 4 years minimum,\n\nProduct Experience: 2 years minimum, 4+ years preferred\n\nDomain Experience: 2 years minimum, 4+ years preferred\n\nSkills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Behaviors\nExpert in object-oriented design, Java or .NET development, relational OLTP queries, and relational database design.\n\nCapable of XML/XSLT document design, JavaScript/TypeScript development, HTML5 & CSS.\n\nWorking knowledge of cloud infrastructure fundamentals (Azure preferred) and Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform.\n\nFamiliarity with containerization and orchestration concepts (Docker, Kubernetes) as used in modern deployment pipelines.\n\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent) and automated testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Pester, or similar).\n\nExpert in Duck Creek Policy, Billing, Claims, Engagement (AP), or Data Insights.\n\nPractical experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) as part of the daily development workflow, paired with sound judgment on when to trust, verify, or override AI suggestions.\n\nAbility to manage deadlines, communicate in a team, and operate independently with guidance.\n\nUnderstands how to estimate, analyze, and execute the Software Product Development Lifecycle with Agile methodology.\n\nUnderstands Insurance domain knowledge.\n\nCORE COMPETENCIES\nOur team is built on strong core values that guide how we work and grow together.
