As part of a Vista portfolio company, you’ll work in an environment backed by deep expertise, long-term investment, and a strong commitment to building market-leading businesses and meaningful careers.\nPOSITION OVERVIEW\nThe Software Engineer II is responsible to design, code, and/or configure solutions for moderate complexity Agile stories, and to create conceptual design/architecture for small scale software solutions.\nWHAT YOU’LL D0\nDesigns, codes, and/or configures solutions for moderate complexity Agile stories, with little guidance from senior software engineers - using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation while independently validating all AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability.\n\nDebugs and resolves moderate complexity software bugs or issues, working independently, and finds the real root cause and provides a fix without collateral damage - applying systematic debugging practices, including when using AI tooling to assist investigation.\n\nWrites automated unit and integration-level tests under own direction, including end-to-end test coverage using modern test automation frameworks.\n\nDesigns and implements Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline changes for cloud-based (Azure) deployments with minimal guidance.\n\nCreates a conceptual design/architecture for small-scale software solutions with guidance from an architect or more senior software engineer.\n\nProvides guidance and mentoring to more junior software engineers, including on the effective and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.\n\nFollows development standards and effectively demonstrates technical solutions to other software engineers in code reviews - including reviewing AI-assisted contributions with the same rigor as hand-written code.\n\nAssists in making source code management decisions for one or more teams.\n\nPerforms complex source code management tasks independently.\n\nWHAT YOU’VE DONE\nEducation and Work Experience:\nBachelor’s degree, or higher education level, or its foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Information Sciences, and/or related field.\n\nTotal Work Experience: 10+ years (software development), 6 years minimum\n\nLeadership Experience: 2 years minimum, 4 years preferred\n\nProduct Experience: 4 years minimum, 6 years preferred\n\nDomain Experience: 4 years minimum, 6 years preferred\n\nSkills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Behaviors\nExpert in object-oriented design, Java or .NET development, relational OLTP queries, and relational database design.\n\nExpert in XML/XSLT document design, JavaScript/TypeScript development, HTML5 & CSS.\n\nStrong working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred), Infrastructure-as-Code tooling (Terraform), and containerization/orchestration concepts (Docker, Kubernetes).\n\nExpert with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent) and automated testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Pester, or similar), including diagnosing pipeline and deployment failures.\n\nExpert in Duck Creek Policy, Billing, Claims, Engagement (AP), or Data Insights.\n\nUnderstands how the Duck Creek Suite operates with an understanding of all the applications.\n\nDemonstrated, hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) as part of the daily development workflow, with sound independent judgment on when to trust, verify, or override AI suggestions, and able to mentor others in doing the same.\n\nExcels in the ability to manage deadlines, communicate in a team, and operate independently with guidance.\n\nExpert in how to estimate, analyze, and execute the Software Product Development Lifecycle with Agile methodology.\n\nExcels in Insurance domain knowledge.\n\nCORE COMPETENCIES\nOur team is built on strong core values that guide how we work and grow together.
