The position may be filled at the Engineer III or Senior Engineer level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Additionally, the role requires providing support to other nuclear plants within the Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet as needed.\nResponsibilities\nServe as the fire protection subject matter expert, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes, regulatory requirements, fleet/site procedures, and plant licensing standards.\nProvide engineering and field support to identify, analyze, and resolve fire protection program issues.\nSupport Fire PRAs, NSCA updates, surveillance testing, pre-plans, impairment monitoring, and engineering calculations.\nPrepare for and support NRC, INPO, NEIL, NSRB, and NOS inspections and audits.\nMonitor fire protection system performance, review engineering changes, respond to industry operating experience, and represent the company professionally.\nBasic/Required Qualifications\nThe incumbent must meet the minimum ANSI requirements for this position identified within the scope of Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications\nNote: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.\nEngineer III\nBachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program\nA Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree\nMinimum of 4 years of engineering experience\n1 year of nuclear power plant experienceIn lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified\n\nSenior Engineer\nBachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer\nA Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree\nMinimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer\n1 year of nuclear power plant experienceIn lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified \n\nDesired Qualifications\nBachelor of Science in Fire Protection from an ABET-accredited program.\nAt least three years of experience in Fire Protection Engineering responsibilities.\nNuclear Power Plant experience\nRegistered Professional Engineer\nWorking Conditions\nHybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 2 full workdays per regular work week.\nWork is performed in both office and plant environments, requiring walking, light lifting, occasional climbing, and exposure to temperature, noise, and radiation.\nThe role operates within a procedural and process-oriented structure due to stringent regulatory requirements.\nMust be available to work some weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.\nOn-call duty responsibilities are part of the position.\nMust be able to conduct field walk-downs in an operating plant environment.\nOccasional travel outside the Duke Energy system may be necessary.\nSpecific Requirements\nAbility to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance.\nMay be required to participate in the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), which could involve callouts with a specified response time and inclusion in an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.\nAble to wear personal protective equipment such as hard-hat, safety glasses, and fall protection as needed.\nWork is conducted in both office and plant environments.\nAdditional hours may be required based on workload and business needs.\nOccasional overnight travel\nTravel Requirements\n5-15%Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable)\nYesRepresented/Union Position\nNoVisa Sponsored Position\nNo. This is not a Visa Sponsored Position.
