This role supports the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of a combined and simple cycle generation facility. The Training Technician is responsible for learning and performing equipment start-up, shutdown, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and routine maintenance across plant systems, including combustion turbines, steam turbine auxiliaries, water treatment systems, substation equipment, and balance-of-plant equipment. The position requires a strong safety focus, mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to follow procedures such as Lock-Out-Tag-Out, and the flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to planned or unplanned site events. This is a hands-on role for someone who can work independently and as part of a team while building the technical knowledge needed to support plant operations.\nResponsibilities\nResponsible for operations, maintenance and balance of plant functions required at the facility.\nPerform operation, planned and unplanned maintenance on substation equipment.\nPerform and follow Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures on equipment such as HRSGs, steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps valves, chillers and high voltage equipment\nPerforms record keeping duties concerning Environmental, Health & Safety records, spreadsheets and documents.\nAble to make repairs to steam turbine auxiliary, prime movers and balance of plant equipment at a Combustion Turbine facility\nAbility to read and understand technical OEM manuals, recommendations and warranty agreements\nSupport and follow safety guidelines, policies and procedures.\nAbility to operate, troubleshoot and maintain water treatment facilities such as reverse osmosis, demineralizers; and perform chemical treatment for equipment such as evaporators and HRSGs\nPerform and monitor combustion and steam turbine plant equipment through normal operations, testing and emergency type events\nMust have general mechanical and electrical skills and knowledge to troubleshoot, maintain and operate a combustion turbine site\nPerform inventory duties, generating spare parts lists, min/max levels and revising inventory lists as required\nAbility to read and understand technical mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings\nGeneral knowledge and ability to perform high voltage switching\nBasic Qualifications:\nHS Diploma/GED\nEffective communication skills, both oral and written\nWorking knowledge of the overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment and processes\nLift up to 50 pounds\nMust have the ability to work within a team-oriented environment and demonstrate team interface skills.\nDemonstrates basic computer skills utilizing windows applications, emails and work management software.\nDemonstrates skills, attitude and ability to work safely.\nDemonstrates positive work attitude, initiative and the ability to work effectively with others.\nDemonstrates ability to learn quickly and work independently without the need of close supervision but can also function well in a team environment.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nAssociates degree and 2 years of related experience\nAbility to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control logic.\nMust be proficient with computers, software applications and plant work management software and tools such as Microsoft packages that include word, excel, power point. In addition, experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo, Passport or equivalent.\nAdditional years of experience with combustion turbine technology\nHigh voltage and substation maintenance and troubleshooting experience.\nExperience with mechanical and electronic field-testing equipment\nExperience with digital control systems, programmable logic controllers, and multi-fueled technologies\nKnowledge of heavy lifting cranes and rigging requirements.\nWork Conditions:\n Onsite Mobility Classification - Work will be performed at a company facility. On-site employees are also required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location, not greater than 50 miles one way.\nAble to work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events.\nWork schedule will require rotating shift work, weekend work and holidays.\nRequired to wear a respirator and must be able to successfully complete a physical and respirator fit test on annual or as needed basis.\nMust be able to work at heights, from suspended work platforms and in confined spaces.\nThis position requires field work in a Combustion and Steam Turbine facility which includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.\nWilling to travel approximately 5-10% for training and assist other Duke Energy Carolinas Combustion Turbine sites when required.\nExposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF)\nMay be exposed to high stress situations.\nWill be required to climb ladders and stairs at various heights; enter vessels or equipment with limited access.\nAbility to walk, bend, stoop, kneel push, pull climb ladders, work in extreme heat or cold, walk/work on grating surfaces at extreme heights\nSpecific Requirements\nMust have a valid driver's license\nMust successfully complete EEI's Plant Operator Selection System (POSS), and Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) by Novemeber 17th 2026\nMust successfully complete a Power Plant Physical Abilities Assessment\nRequired to pass a medical physical including a respirator fit test\nAbility to successfully complete levels of Employee Development and Qualification Program training.\nAbility to work around equipment that generates electromagnetic fields (EMF).\nThis position contains a weight restriction of 325 pounds as an essential function of the job.
