Audits records and charges for accuracy. Assist Business Services and Auditing Department with billing issues and perform audits of all records. Identifies hospital charging and nursing documentation issues and relates these to the appropriate department managers.\nWork Performed\nReconciles the number of charge sheets received in the OR/Endo daily census \nReviews patient charts for completeness and verifies that all information is accurately documented on the charge sheet \nDocuments additions and corrects errors to charge sheet according to departmental standards \nCommunicates with staff for needed documentation for accurate charging and billing \nCommunicates departmental charging issues to the appropriate department manager \nProvides ongoing education for staff to communicate and improve charge capture and documentation \nTracks supply items charges under miscellaneous codes and completes paperwork to establish specific charge codes \nEnters appropriate patient charge codes into surgical information system \nEducates and orients staff to the charging practices and documentation standards for the department \nProvides support to Billing, Patient Accounting, and insurance representatives to assist with billing issues and patient inquires \nMaintains an understanding of medical record practices, standards, and regulations \nDevelop and maintain current written policies, procedures, and guidelines\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities\nKnowledge of scope of the registered nurse and surgical technologist \nKnowledge of and appropriate application of nursing process \nKnowledge of theory, practice, and procedures \nAbility to assess nursing documentation for accuracy \nKnowledge of supplies required for various surgical procedures \nAble to independently seek our resources and work collaboratively \nAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships \nAble to use computer and learn new software programs \nAble to withstand prolonged periods of sitting \nAble to remain focused and organized \nWorking knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements\nLevel Characteristics\nThe Charge Code Auditor is a representative of Surgical Services management. Position directly impacts revenue capture and must work collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines.\nMinimum Qualifications\nEducation\nBSN Required\nExperience\nThree years of nursing experience is required\nDegrees, Licensures, Certifications\nCurrent or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required.
