Some roles may also be subject to nationality requirements where these are necessary to meet UK Government or contractual security obligations.\nThe role:\nThe Solution Design Team Infrastructure Architect is a senior technical leadership position responsible for designing, implementing and managing enterprise-scale infrastructure platforms supporting defence and aerospace operations. The successful candidate will work alongside the customer as a part of their Solution Design Team. The SDT maintains the end-to-end Solution Architecture top level design document and governs contractor solution designs ensuring individual service designs and HLDs fit into the wider solution and address the required policies, standards and requirements (functional, non-functional, security and service which it is also responsible for defining in conjunction with the contractor). It further supports the management of the SAFe development roadmap, and programme integration, testing and support of the end-to-end solution.\nThe Infrastructure Architect will cover the infrastructure solutions including on premise VCF based private cloud infrastructure and broader platform services to deliver secure tenant systems operating on the platform. This requires exceptional technical breadth and depth with strategic thinking and programme leadership capabilities.\nResponsibilities:\nDefine and deliver enterprise infrastructure architecture across compute, storage, networking and virtualisation platforms.\nDevelop cloud and hybrid infrastructure strategies aligned to defence security requirements.\nLead infrastructure modernisation, cloud adoption, system migrations and technology refresh programmes.\nDesign resilient, secure and scalable platforms supporting mission-critical services.\nEstablish infrastructure standards, design patterns and governance frameworks.\nDrive technical decision-making through architecture reviews and stakeholder engagement.\nEnsure compliance with security policies, defence standards and industry regulations.\nLead capacity planning, performance optimisation and operational resilience initiatives.\nProvide technical leadership, mentoring and architectural guidance to engineering teams.\nAct as a trusted advisor to customers and senior stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into business outcomes.\nSupport disaster recovery, business continuity, security hardening and incident response planning.\nEvaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve capability, security and efficiency.\nRequirements:\n Essential:\nExtensive experience in IT infrastructure, including enterprise-scale architecture and design leadership.\nProven expertise in cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments (AWS, Azure or equivalent).\nStrong background in virtualisation, storage, networking and high-availability platform design.\nExperience delivering infrastructure transformation, modernisation and migration programmes.\nKnowledge of infrastructure architecture frameworks, governance and best practices.\nFamiliarity with VMware, containerisation, Kubernetes and modern infrastructure technologies.\nUnderstanding of disaster recovery, business continuity and resilient infrastructure design.\nExperience working within secure, regulated or defence-related environments.\nExcellent stakeholder management, communication and technical leadership skills.\nExperience working with TOGAF, ArchiMate and Agile delivery methodologies (SAFe preferred).\nDesirable:\nExperience working within secure on-premise environments.\nBackground in defence, aerospace or government technology programmes.\nKnowledge of defence security policies, standards and compliance requirements.\nCloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or Azure Solutions Architect.\nTOGAF certification or wider Enterprise Architecture experience.\nExperience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices.\nUnderstanding of ITAR and export control regulations.\nWhat we offer:\nCompetitive salary and benefits package\nEnhanced pension scheme\nPrivate medical insurance and comprehensive health benefits\nFlexible working arrangements\nProfessional development and training support\nOpportunity to architect mission-critical infrastructure for world-class defence organisations\nAt DXC Technology, we believe strong connections and community are key to our success.
