The role may be offered at Lead Engineer or Associate Principal Engineer level depending on the skills, experience and impact demonstrated by the successful candidate.\nThis is a highly technical, hands-on role focused on the design, development and continuous improvement of automated test systems used to support motor research and development activities.\nThe successful candidate will act as a technical expert in automation, control systems, instrumentation and test software, helping to develop new verification capabilities while supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers.\nWorking closely with the Engineering Manager, this role will play a key part in delivering complex test systems, improving laboratory capabilities and shaping technical solutions that enable efficient and reliable verification of Dyson technologies.\nThis role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging multidisciplinary engineering problems and developing practical, robust solutions that have a direct impact on engineering effectiveness.\nKey Responsibilities\nAutomation & Test Systems\nDesign, develop and commission automated verification systems and test equipment.\nDevelop software for test automation, instrumentation, data acquisition and control applications.\nImprove existing test systems to increase capability, reliability, efficiency and maintainability.\nLead the technical delivery of complex automation and capability improvement projects.\nInvestigate and resolve challenging technical issues across software, hardware and instrumentation domains.\nSupport the definition and implementation of effective verification methodologies.\nSupport test execution as required\nSoftware & Control Systems\nAct as a technical expert in LabVIEW development.\nDevelop and maintain supporting applications using Python and C/C++.\nDesign and implement control systems for automated test equipment.\nIntegrate instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition hardware and control platforms.\nContribute to software architecture decisions and promote good software engineering practices.\nSupport code reviews, debugging activities and technical problem solving across the team.\nCapability Development\nIdentify opportunities to improve verification capability and laboratory effectiveness.\nLead improvement projects from concept through design, implementation and deployment.\nSupport the introduction of new technologies, tools and engineering approaches.\nContribute ideas that improve team capability, efficiency and engineering quality.\nSupport the specification, procurement and commissioning of new test equipment and laboratory capabilities.\nVerification & Technical Analysis\nSupport the planning and execution of motor verification and performance testing activities.\nAnalyse and interpret test data to identify performance trends, opportunities and technical issues.\nDevelop test methods and measurement techniques to improve the quality and effectiveness of verification activities.\nSupport benchmarking and evaluation of competitor motor technologies.\nWork closely with motor, electronics and systems engineers to understand and investigate product performance.\nCoaching & Mentoring\nMentor verification engineers, graduate engineers, placement students and technicians.\nSupport engineers in training through coaching, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.\nEquipment & Laboratory Ownership\nTake ownership of strategic test systems, equipment platforms or laboratory capabilities.\nSupport maintenance, calibration and lifecycle planning activities.\nDrive improvements to equipment reliability, usability and performance.\nContribute to maintaining safe, efficient and effective laboratory environments.\nAbout You\nEssential Skills & Experience\nDegree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.\nExtensive experience developing automated test systems within an engineering environment.\nExpert-level LabVIEW development experience.\nStrong experience developing software using Python and C/C++.\nExcellent understanding of automation, control systems and data acquisition.\nExperience delivering complex engineering projects from concept through implementation.\nPractical understanding of electronics, instrumentation and fault-finding.\nExcellent problem-solving and communication skills.\nDesirable Skills & Experience\nNational Instruments hardware and software platforms.\nTestStand development.\nElectric motor testing and motor control systems.\nDatabase systems and data management.\nDesign of test fixtures, rigs and laboratory equipment.\nThe successful candidate will be a highly capable hands-on engineer
