Lead Engineer, Product Performance

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

1.

Technical

• Responsible for the delivery of product performance technologies and solutions. Developing a wholistic technical understanding of the product performance and to determine critical factors within sub-systems, breaking down a complex system into manageable engineering requirements and work packages. collaborating with other engineering teams to provide the best performance.
• Owners of the Performance system specifications, ensuring they are coherent with the product spec, and are verifiable and repeatable. Working with other Technology Development team members, using analysis techniques such as investigative experiments and/or simulation to resolve technical issues from failures of specifications.
• Collaborate across diverse stakeholders, often managing familiar and less challenging internal customers, to deliver optimum performance for user’s benefit. Provide options for optimal trade-offs to balance performance-related factors such as flowrate, acoustics, thermals, design, vision, claims etc. at times requires the ability to influence a decision that’s best for the product. 2. Process
• Deliver top level performance metrics on a full product complexity project with multiple attachments, resolving complex problems without precedents either through established approach or defining one. Demonstrated ability to assess multiple viewpoints/argument independently and determine technical direction for project or specialist areas.
• Plan and prioritise tasks to drive a coherent requirement definition to ensure consistent development of performance throughout the product development.
• Drive analysis of data, ensure robust test methodology and conclusive proposals for timely delivery of solutions / verification reports using advanced competency in Matlab, Minitab, Excel and/or python. Proficient in root cause analysis techniques and able to utilize skill in project or specialist areas. Able to coach less experienced engineers.
• Work with the leadership team to define the new performance team in Singapore, defining structures and frameworks for long term collaboration with other teams, ensuring delivery gaps are closed out and new knowledge acquired documented. Drive team to support and achieve departmental goals. 3. Career Development

• Develop technical competencies by active involvement in projects, self-learning, and training.
• Be a contributor team member in helping the organization drive technical excellence and capability growth in delivering superior hair style and dry performance.
• Help to influence the structure and ways of working within the team. 4. Collaborate / Communication
• Collaborate with a project team to deliver optimized hair style and drying performance in line with product vision.
• Communicate well with the stakeholders, present work in a coherent well documented manor.
• Able to be an influential stakeholder by showing a strong and coherent work ethic and logical approach to your work.
• Able to guide, influence and support more junior members of the team.
• Ensure work is well document and in a state that can be referenced by all for future use. 5. Problem Solving
• Able to assess multiple arguments for a complex problem and derive the best solution, whilst managing expectation of stakeholders.
• Actively challenge status quo and support improvement initiatives. Identify and develop new opportunities/tools/methods with the aim of enhancing the performance, reliability, and time to market of Dyson products. Qualifications:
• At least a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, preferred applicants to have a Master degree.
• 8 years of experience in mechanical product design & development, system engineering in the field of fluid dynamics, preferably in the oral care industry.
• In-depth knowledge & experience of experimental methodologies & techniques for core discipline
• Competent in the use and application of CAD/CAE tools in general. Experience in the UG and ANSYS suite of products is preferred for ideal collaboration with teams.
• Strong written & verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly, concisely & confidently present & articulate ideas to larger cross-category groups from a variety of areas, often with Management attendees. Proficient in clear, concise communication of ideas & concepts, frequently tailoring communication to suit different levels. Developed ability to persuade & influence others when appropriate, typically within a project team. Interpersonal skills:
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to receive constructive feedback and coaching and respond appropriately. Able to coach less experienced engineers.
• Proficiently communicate ideas and concepts, frequently tailoring communication to suit different levels. Ability to persuade and influence others as needed, typically within a project team.
• Ensure cooperation and interaction across diverse stakeholders, often managing familiar and less challenging internal customers. Extent of guidance or control:
• Generally characterized as a “Independent Contributor”.
• Potentially managing development plans & coaching of more junior engineers within department.
