We are creative, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic, but most of all, we’re hugely passionate about what we do.\nAbout the role\nWe are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Engineer - Advanced Control System (ACS) to lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced control systems across our platform.\nThis pivotal technical leadership role will drive innovation, ensure technical excellence, and shape the strategic direction of control system architectures for complex platforms and applications.\nWorking closely with software, hardware, systems, and product engineering teams, you will define control strategies, algorithms, and system models, and integrate high-performance control solutions that optimise performance, reliability, and scalability.\nThis role is ideal for a technical leader with deep expertise in control theory, system modelling, and real-time implementation, supported by a strong track record of delivering complex, high-performance systems.\nWhat You'll Be Responsible For:\nLead Control System Architecture and Development\nLead the architecture and development of advanced control systems for complex platforms and applications.\nShape the strategic direction of control system architectures and ensure technical excellence across the platform.\nDefine Control Strategies, Algorithms and System Models\nDefine control strategies, algorithms, and system models to optimise performance, reliability, and scalability.\nLead the development and real-time implementation of control solutions in embedded or distributed environments.\nDrive Technical Reviews, Validation and Verification\nDrive technical reviews, validation, and verification of control systems to meet safety and regulatory standards.\nDevelop and maintain system specifications, design reports, and test plans.\nTechnical Leadership and Innovation\nMentor and guide engineering teams in control system design, modelling, and simulation.\nEvaluate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance system capabilities and performance.\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nCollaborate with software, hardware, systems, and product engineering teams to integrate control solutions.\nRepresent the company in technical forums, conferences, and industry collaborations.\nAbout you\nWhat You'll Bring\nMaster’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Systems, Robotics, or a related field.\n10+ years of experience in control system design and implementation, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.\nProven ability to architect and deliver complex, high-performance control systems in embedded or distributed environments.\nStrong proficiency in classical and modern control theory, system identification, and optimisation techniques.\nHands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, and real-time operating systems.\nExperience with model-based design, digital twin technologies, and AI-enhanced control systems is a plus.\nFamiliarity with industry standards and compliance requirements, such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, and IEC 61508, is desirable.\nLeadership Attributes\nWe are looking for a leader who:\nMentors and guides engineers in control system design, modelling, and simulation.\nBalances technical depth with strategic thinking.\nDemonstrates excellent problem-solving skills when addressing complex control system challenges.\nCommunicates effectively and collaborates across software, hardware, systems, and product engineering teams.\nBuilds a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.\nHas the courage to challenge the status quo and drive innovation.\nWhy Join Us?\nShape the strategic direction of advanced control system architectures across our platform.\nInfluence technology strategy and product architecture at a global level.\nWork on advanced control theory, system modelling, and real-time implementation for complex applications.\nDevelop engineering capability through technical mentorship and industry collaboration.\nDrive innovation that directly impacts millions of customers worldwide.\nDyson is an equal opportunity employer.
