Senior Design Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering robust engineering solutions for Floorcare products throughout the product development lifecycle. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across Design Engineering, Electronics, Software, Operations, Quality and Research, you will help bring innovative technologies from concept through to mass production.

You will use your engineering judgement and technical expertise to develop solutions, resolve complex challenges and ensure products meet performance, cost, quality and manufacturability targets.

Based in Shanghai, you will collaborate closely with global development teams and supplier partners to support the successful delivery of new products and technologies.

Accountabilities

Engineering Development

• Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, components and assemblies for Floorcare products.
• Develop engineering solutions that meet performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost requirements.
• Support product development activities from concept generation through design validation and production introduction.
• Contribute to product architecture decisions and system integration activities.

Technical Delivery

• Identify technical risks and drive robust mitigation plans throughout development.
• Conduct engineering investigations, root-cause analysis and problem-solving activities.
• Ensure designs comply with Dyson engineering standards, processes and quality expectations.
• Support design reviews and contribute to technical decision-making across project teams.

Product Validation

• Support the planning, execution and evaluation of prototype builds and validation testing.
• Analyse test results and build findings to drive product improvements and design maturity.
• Assess engineering solutions against product requirements and performance targets.
• Ensure design changes are robustly evaluated and appropriately implemented.

Supplier Collaboration

• Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to develop and industrialise engineering solutions.
• Challenge technical proposals and manufacturing approaches where appropriate.
• Support the implementation of design improvements to enhance product quality, performance and manufacturing efficiency.
• Contribute technical input to supplier selection and development activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work effectively across Design Engineering, Research, Electronics, Software, Operations and Quality teams.
• Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
• Support project planning activities through the identification of dependencies, risks and engineering resource requirements.
• Share knowledge and contribute to the development of engineering capability within the team.

About You

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience delivering consumer products from concept through to production.
• Strong understanding of engineering development processes and product delivery.
• Experience in mechanical design, product integration and design validation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection moulding, die casting, stamping and assembly technologies.
• Understanding of requirements management, risk management and structured engineering problem solving.
• Experience using CAD, PLM and engineering analysis tools.
• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving capability.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English and Mandarin.

Desirable

• Experience within Floorcare, consumer electronics, home appliances or other high-volume consumer products.
• Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing partners in China.
• Knowledge of motors, airflow systems, fluid systems or electromechanical products.
• Experience working within global product development teams.
