Join us.\nPosition Title: Staff Mechanical Engineer\nLocation: Portland, OR\nWork Arrangement: On-site\nPosition Summary:\nWe are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for multiple Counter UAS and autonomous system programs. This role is ideal for an engineer with approximately 10+ years of experience who is comfortable working in fast paced environments and handling a wide variety of mechanical design tasks-from initial concepts through detailed drawings, prototype builds, and design verification. The Staff ME will work closely with senior engineering leads to implement mechanical architectures, resolve integration issues, and support transition to production. Candidates with defense industry experience, small company adaptability, and familiarity with ruggedized systems are strongly preferred.\nRequired Duties and Responsibilities:\nDevelop mechanical components, subassemblies, and enclosures for defense and counter UAS systems\nCreate detailed CAD models, drawings, and documentation (SolidWorks preferred)\nSupport design activities involving machined parts, injection molded components, sheet metal, and composite structures\nPerform tolerance analysis, basic structural evaluations, and thermal considerations with guidance from senior engineers\nCollaborate with electrical, RF, embedded systems, and manufacturing teams to resolve integration challenges\nParticipate in prototype builds, test events, design reviews, and iterative improvement cycles\nAssist with supplier coordination, material selection, and DFM recommendations\nMaintain documentation, configuration control, and build support throughout product life cycles\nPresent and communicate project details to key stakeholders\nRequired Skills/Qualifications:\n10+ years of mechanical design experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, or related industries\nSolid proficiency in CAD modeling and mechanical drafting\nHands-on experience designing for multiple manufacturing processes (machining, molding, sheet metal, rapid prototyping)\nUnderstanding of ruggedized electronics packaging, environmental considerations, and practical thermal/structural constraints\nComfortable working in small teams with rapid iteration cycles\nPreferred Skills/Qualifications:\nExperience supporting DoD programs or working in military-focused environments\nBackground with autonomous systems, UAV platforms, RF-enabled hardware, or counter-UAS technologies\nFamiliarity with qualification testing, environmental requirements, and defense documentation standards\nExperience in smaller engineering organizations, startups, or rapid prototyping programs\nAbility to grow toward increased project leadership responsibilities\nEducation :\nBachelor's degree or above in STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) or an equivalent combination of education and experience\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field\nClearance Level Required: No Security Clearance is required, but it is highly desired\nTravel Required: Not required for daily activities, but probable travel once per quarter\nWorking Conditions:\nThe diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, such as a general office environment, to warehouse and other facilities.\nPhysical Demands:\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:\nMust have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, occasionally lift a minimum of 25 lbs.\nInvolves movement between departments, floors, and worksites to facilitate work.\nExport Control / ITAR Requirement:\nThis position requires access to information and technology subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible for an annual bonus.
