To accelerate the world's renewable energy transition and create a more sustainable, resilient energy future for everyone.\nWith our innovative SolBank lithium-iron phosphate battery technology and comprehensive project services, we're not just building products we're powering communities and making a difference worldwide.\nRole Overview for Controls Engineer\nAs a Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in deploying utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across North America, supporting projects from initial design through commissioning and long-term operation.\nYou'll work closely with internal engineering teams, equipment vendors, EPCs, utilities, project developers, and customers to ensure control systems are designed, integrated, and delivered successfully. From reviewing control philosophies and validating network architectures to troubleshooting communications and supporting commissioning activities, you'll help ensure every project performs safely, reliably, and efficiently.\nIf you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, collaborating across multiple disciplines, and seeing your work come to life in the field, this role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on the future of renewable energy while working on some of the industry's most advanced utility-scale energy storage projects.\nWhat You'll Be Doing as a Controls Engineer\nReview project contracts and vendor agreements for controls-related requirements and ensure alignment throughout project execution.\nReview and validate project design packages, including electrical drawings, data flow diagrams, network designs, signal mappings (analog, Modbus, DNP3), electrical power models, and control narratives.\nMaintain and organize technical documentation within SharePoint while coordinating documentation flow with vendors and project stakeholders.\nDevelop batch scripts and automation tools to streamline data collection and improve operational efficiency.\nServe as a key technical resource for customers, EPCs, utilities, equipment vendors, and internal project teams throughout project execution.\nTroubleshoot network and communications issues within VPN-secured environments.\nRespond to customer and operator requests regarding system modifications, troubleshooting, and control system enhancements.\nSupport site commissioning activities and provide technical expertise for all controls-related tasks.\nEnsure all activities are performed in compliance with engineering standards, project requirements, safety protocols, and company policies.\nWhat You'll Bring to The Position\nEducational background in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.\nMinimum of 3 years of experience working with industrial control systems within electrical generation, renewable energy, or similar power system environments.\nDemonstrated experience with industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, and TCP/IP.\nStrong understanding of industrial networking, including IP addressing, subnetting, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and network communications.\nExperience with SCADA systems, plant control systems, or utility-scale automation.\nExperience working with inverter-based resources (IBR) such as Battery Energy Storage Systems, solar, or other renewable generation technologies is considered an asset.\nExposure to substations, protective relays, and transformers is preferred.\nExcellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.\nAbility to travel up to 10-15% nationally and internationally to support project sites and vendor facilities.\nWhat It’s Like To Work Here\nAt e-STORAGE, you're more than just an employee-you're part of a team that values your ideas, your background, and your unique perspective.
