To accelerate the world’s renewable energy transition and create a more sustainable, resilient energy future for everyone.\nWith our innovative SolBank lithium-iron phosphate battery technology and comprehensive project services, we’re not just building products we’re powering communities and making a difference worldwide.\nPosition Title: Sr. Fire Safety Engineer\nDepartment: Engineering (Primary) but will support other departments\nEntity: CS e-Storage \nReports To: Director of Project Engineering, EMEA\nLocation: Remote -UK based but covers EMEA region\nPosition Summary:\nThe Senior Fire Safety Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and performance of our utility-scale and commercial energy storage systems (ESS) deployed throughout the EMEA region. As part of the Energy Storage Solution Management team, this individual will support product design, track evolving fire safety regulations and standards, and provide project-level technical support across multiple phases of ESS deployment.\nThe role requires deep familiarity with UL 9540, 9540A, NFPA 855, BS and IEC standards, and other applicable fire detection and protection standards, along with strong collaboration and documentation skills. The ideal candidate brings a background in fire protection or mechanical engineering, with experience in system-level safety design, regulatory engagement, and large-scale fire testing.\nResponsibilities\nProduct Design Support\nProvide fire safety guidance during the design and development of BESS enclosures and integrated energy storage solutions for global markets. \nEvaluate system layouts, battery configurations, fire detection and alarming, ventilation strategies from a safety perspective. \nParticipate in product design reviews and collaborate with product and solution managers to ensure safety considerations are embedded early. \nInterpret and review third-party fire testing reports and modelling data to recommend design or process improvements. \nSupport fire safety validation through internal and third-party test campaigns, including UL 9540A and IEC 62933-based evaluations. \nSupport system integration testing activities related to fire safety systems \nRegulatory Tracking, Continuous Improvement, and Documentation\nMonitor updates in fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 855, UL 9540A, BS/IEC) relevant to energy storage products and technology across global markets. \nMaintain and update internal fire safety guidelines, technical notes, and design templates based on evolving standards and field experience. \nLead continuous improvement initiatives related to safety documentation, including emergency response plans, fire protection strategies, and permitting support packages. \nConsolidate feedback from test results, project experience, and internal reviews into actionable improvements for future product iterations. \nLead the review or drafting of fire safety documents, including safety manuals and safety training materials. \nProject Engineering Fire Safety Support\nProvide project-specific technical support on fire safety requirements, including code interpretations, layout reviews, and compliance documentation. \nAssist in preparing technical documentation for customer due diligence and local planning authority (LPA) submissions, specific to the technology and project design. Includes: Emergency Response Plan (ERP), Hazard Mitigation Analysis (HMA), Heat Flux Analysis (HFA), Fire Risk Assessments (FRA), Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR). \nExperience of modelling software such as FDS would be a bonus. \nExperienced in reviewing fire detection and alarm system designs. \nSupport project engineers in interpreting fire test data and applying protection strategies at the project level. \nCoordinate with third-party testing labs, consultants, and regulatory bodies to meet project compliance goals. \nReview project drawings and documentation for compliance with eStorage product design and requirements \nReview contractual agreements for conformance with our equipment solution \nLead resolution of Customer, Insurer, Owners Engineer and Local Planning Authority inquiries related to fire protection and safety strategy implementation. \nFocused on UK and EU markets \nComfortable dealing with Fire and Rescue Service, including site familiarisation visits and training. \nQualifications and Experience:\nFire Engineering (or related: Mechanical, Building Services, Structural with fire modules) \nIFireE / MFireE membership with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) \nChartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward it \nThirdparty accreditation in fire risk assessment (e.g., FRAP, IFSM) \nMinimum 3 years of fire safety engineering experience, preferably in the energy storage, battery systems, or industrial power sector. \nDeep understanding of fire protection codes and standards including UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 68/69, BS7671, BS 5839, BS 9999, BS 7974, BS 5306, PD 7974 series & BS/IEC standards. \nExperience planning, managing, and reviewing large-scale fire testing programs and interpreting test results and modelling data. \nFamiliarity with ESS hardware development, BESS enclosure designs, fire safety system integration, and emergency response planning. \nStrong technical communication skills, with experience preparing test reports, compliance packages and local planning authority documentation. \nKnowledge of industry fire alarm systems and manufacturers, including networking design \nAbility to collaborate across global teams including product development, compliance, engineering, and external consultants. \nFlexibility to travel and coordinate across global time zones as needed. \nPersonal Qualifications:\nComfortable in a collaborative and fluid environment. \nAn excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a wide variety of issues, initiatives and objectives concurrently. \nGood technical writing skills \nExceptional ability to simplify and report complicated scenarios to the management team, with outstanding judgment and decision-making abilities. \nSolid and effective interpersonal and communication skills (including oral, written and visual) \nAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally with staff, management, clients, suppliers, community partners and external stakeholders. \nDemonstrated sound judgment and the ability to be decisive in crisis situations. \nStrong organizational skills with excellent written and verbal communication. \nKnowledge of BESS product validation, system integration, and testing methodologies. \nFlexibility to travel up to 10%, including international travel as required , for vendor assessments, testing, and industry events. \nWhat It’s Like to Work Here\nAt e-STORAGE, you’re more than just an employee-you’re part of a team that values your ideas, your background, and your unique perspective.
