At E2, we value safety, innovation and collaboration, and we are dedicated to excellence.\nOverview\nE2 Consulting Engineers is seeking a qualified Dual Coating & Welding Inspector to support Client's natural gas pipeline construction projects across Illinois. This specialized dual-certified role combines expertise in both welding inspection and field-applied coating inspection to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance on pipeline construction and integrity projects.\nThe Dual Coating & Welding Inspector plays a critical role in verifying welder qualifications, welding procedures, weld quality, and coating application. This position requires strong technical knowledge of welding codes (API 1104, ASME B31.8) and coating standards, along with the ability to perform comprehensive field inspections across both disciplines.\nResponsibilities\nWelding Inspection & Quality Assurance\nVerify that welding procedures are properly qualified and utilized on the project.\nConfirm that all welders are qualified for the work they are performing and that qualifications are current.\nMonitor weld quality to ensure sound welds are produced at all joints in accordance with applicable codes and Company specifications.\nVerify that repairs made to correct weld defects properly address the issue and meet code and specification requirements.\nEnsure all welding materials are of the proper type and quality, stored correctly, and that damaged materials are not used.\nMaintain detailed weld mapping, as-built documentation, and proper material traceability (MTRs).\nCoating Inspection\nInspect field-applied coatings on pipe, fittings, valves, and joints to verify compliance with Company procedures and manufacturer instructions.\nPerform coating inspections including holiday detection (jeeping), mil thickness verification, and hardness testing.\nWitness all HDD pull-throughs to verify coating protection and examine the leading edge for coating damage.\nComplete all required pre-backfill, pre-pull, and post-HDD coating verification checks.\nGeneral Pipeline Inspection & Documentation\nInspect Other Contractors' work for compliance with permit and one-call requirements.\nVerify proper material usage, equipment, and safety measures on the jobsite.\nComplete Daily Inspection Reports, coating inspection forms, safety forms, and other required documentation accurately and thoroughly.\nWitness hydrostatic testing and verify equipment calibration documentation.\nMaintain proactive communication with the Chief Inspector regarding daily issues, anticipated problems, and resource needs.\nQualifications\n AWS Certified Welding Inspector (AWS CWI, SCWI, or CPWI accepted).\n NACE CIP Level 1 (or current AMPP equivalent).\nMinimum of 3-5 years of pipeline construction and/or inspection experience (combination of welding and coating experience preferred).\nStrong knowledge of welding techniques, procedures, consumables, and weld preparation.\nAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, alignment sheets, and valve maps.\nFamiliarity with DOT 192 and OSHA regulations.\nKnowledge of applicable codes and standards: API 1104, ASME B31.8, NACE, and SSPC.\nProficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.\nStrong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate weld mapping and documentation.\nPreferred\nExperience on urban natural gas transmission pipeline projects.\nAdditional NDT certifications (e.g., MT or PT Level 1).\nAMPP CIP Level 2 or higher.\nExperience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) coating inspection.\nBenefits\nE2 Consulting Engineers, LP offers an excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k) with employer match.\nWage Data Per State Requirements\nThis role will pay $50.00 an hour depending on experience.\nWork Environment/Physical Demands\nConstruction Sites and/or Client Right-of-Way (R.O.W.)\nClient testing facility (occasionally)\nCorporate office (occasionally)\nReports to the Chief Inspector, based locally with respect to the projects.\nMay require extensive driving to reach job sites and/or client/E2 offices.\nFrequent ascending and descending of ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms up in and out of pipeline bell-hole / trench / excavation.\nMaintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.\nLifting objects in excess of 50 pounds from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position\nAbility to perform visual inspection of construction crew quality of work; using measuring devices; and/or assembly of fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.\nAble to perform in both inside and outside environmental conditions in all four seasons throughout the continental United States - extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit) and/or extreme heat (temperatures above 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for periods of more than one hour.\nMay require extensive driving to reach job sites and/or client/E2 offices.\nLocal Candidates only\nNoDrug Free Workplace\nE2 Consulting Engineers, LP is a Drug Free Workplace.
