At E2, we value safety, innovation and collaboration, and we are dedicated to excellence.\nOverview\nE2 is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the engineering and design of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for delivering complete, coordinated designs from early development through detailed engineering and construction support.\nThe candidate brings strong experience in power systems, renewable integration, and multi-discipline coordination, with the ability to lead complex projects involving high-voltage interconnections, battery systems, and grid compliance requirements.\nResponsibilities\nEngineering & Design Leadership\nLead the engineering and design of utility-scale BESS projects (typically 10 MW to 500+ MW) \nDevelop and review key design deliverables, including:One-line diagrams and three-line diagrams \nAC and DC system layouts \nEquipment specifications (battery systems, inverters, transformers, switchgear) \nGrounding, protection, and control schemes \n\nDefine system architecture (DC-coupled vs. AC-coupled configurations)\nPower Systems & Interconnection\nSupport interconnection processes and utility coordination \nReview and interpret system impact studies and facility studies \nCoordinate or perform studies such as:Load flow \nShort circuit \nProtection coordination \nHarmonic analysis \n\nEnsure compliance with utility and ISO/RTO requirements (e.g., CAISO, WECC) \nMulti-Discipline Coordination\nCoordinate with civil, structural, and transmission teams for:Site layout and grading constraints \nEquipment foundations and trenching \nHigh-voltage interconnection design \n\nInterface with OEM vendors (battery suppliers, inverter manufacturers) \nProject Delivery\nSupport project lifecycle from development through IFC (Issued for Construction) design \nPrepare engineering packages, drawings, and technical reports \nSupport procurement by developing technical specifications and evaluating bids \nAssist in project scheduling, cost estimating, and risk identification \nConstruction & Commissioning Support\nRespond to RFIs and support field engineering during construction \nReview shop drawings and vendor submittals \nSupport commissioning activities and system energization \nClient Interface\nServe as a technical lead in client meetings and design reviews \nSupport proposals, scope development, and level-of-effort estimates \nProvide technical guidance to clients on BESS technologies and design decisions \nMentorship & Leadership\nMentor junior engineers and designers \nSupport development of internal standards, templates, and best practices \nContribute to building E2’s renewable and storage engineering capabilities\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required) \n7-12+ years of relevant experience in power systems, renewables, or energy storage \nDemonstrated experience in utility-scale BESS or solar + storage projects \nStrong understanding of:Medium- and high-voltage electrical systems \nInverter-based resources (IBRs) \nProtection and controls \n\nExperience with power system study tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, SKM, or PSLF) \nKnowledge of applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, UL, utility standards) \nProfessional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain\nBenefits\nE2 Consulting Engineers, LP offers an excellent benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off.\nWage Data Per State Requirements\nSalary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000.
