The role utilizes specific knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices to optimize safety, quality, and productivity of the operation.\nMAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:\nUtilize empirical, numerical, and analytical methods to design and evaluate ground support patterns\nIndependently inspect working areas and generate documentation and reports for activities including corrosion mapping, ground support QAQC inspections, and re-entry inspections.\nWork with Mining Engineers to develop and update mine plans to include geotechnical considerations\nManage the expansion and calibration of the microseismic system\nPlan, monitor and track ground support rehabilitation activities \nReview monthly mine plans for potential geotechnical concerns using field mapping, core photographs, core logs, and modeling. \nUpdate the life of mine stress model and assess the impact of stope design and sequence changes on induced stresses\nAssist in the installation and maintenance of instrumentation and telemetry systems underground and on surface\nCollect, analyze, and report on geotechnical monitoring data \nCoordinate with multiple departments and contractors to plan and execute geotechnical projects\nDevelop and present training for the underground workforce in geotechnical issues and ground support\nAssist with underground geotechnical mapping and geotechnical core logging\nOther duties as assigned\nEDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Geological Engineering or equivalent required\n3-5 years of rock mechanics experience in an operational setting - UG experience preferred\nExperience in areas of geotechnical investigations and ground support design and evaluation required\nExposure to mine design software (Deswik, Vulcan) preferred\nExposure to Map3D software preferred\nProficiency with Rocscience Suite of software (Dips, Unwedge, RS2) required\nHigh level of proficiency with MS Office Suite required \nAwareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administrations (MSHA) acts and regulations\nStrong analytical abilities along with good communication skills\nAbility to work independently\nProject management skills \nKEY PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:\nAction oriented - Drives others to take timely action, Identifies and seizes new opportunities\nEnsures Accountability - Accepts responsibility for successes and failures of own work and team’s work\nDecision Quality - Synthesizes information, experience, and inputs to determine the best course of action\nCollaborates - Facilitates effective collaboration among coworkers and external partners\nCommunicates Effectively - Practices active and attentive listening skills to verify understanding\nManages Ambiguity - Coaches others in finding solutions despite incomplete information\nDrives Engagement - Ensures that all team members are motivated to work toward common goals\nPlans and Aligns - Ensures that the team’s plans and priorities are aligned with the organization\nStrategic Mindset - Leads the team to pursue possibilities that will create sustainable value\nBuilds Effective Teams - Ensures that the team has the right mix of skills and leverages strengths\nHSEC ACCOUNTABILITIES\nEveryone in the workplace is responsible for his or her own safety and for the safety of their co-workers.
