We believe education is the key that enables all people to create economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families, and their community. ESH’s LTW Programs aligns with our mission by providing high-quality programs and services within community centers and school partnerships.\nReporting to the Program Director, the Student Advisor is responsible for Student Advisor will provide support over a wide variety of areas including college and career readiness, academic progress monitoring, day-to-day student issues, social-emotional and personal development. The Student Advisor will follow the Primary Person Model where they will be the first point of contact for students, parents and staff members. As a member of the Smith YABC the Student Advisor is expected to work collaboratively with our partner school faculty and staff to ensure each student’s academic success.\nEssential Functions and Responsibilities\nUnder the supervision of the Program Director the Student Advisor will be responsible for but not limited to the following:\nBe a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 50 students\nConduct intake interviews with students and family members\nConduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, remotely, or home visit\nConsult with guidance counselors on student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plans\nConsult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance\nRefer students to academic and support services as needed\nAttend administrative meetings, program training and staff development. Meetings may require virtual attendance\nMeet with caseloads in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career, and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require the usage of remote platforms, or be socially distanced\nConduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseload\nEducate students about colleges, the college admissions process, FAFSA, trends, procedures, and testing; advise students as they go through the process and help them aspire realistically and choose wisely\nWalk students through employment opportunities\nConduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional development\nDocument all interactions with students on Salesforce, Google Suite, and other data systems as required\nParticipate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development\nParticipating in and helping arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities\nProvide other program support functions as required\nMaintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips required\nSome evenings, weekends, and remote work required\nPlease note that in case of a DOE shutdown, ESH will re-issue protocols accordingly.\nOther Duties\nPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Additional qualifications include:\nEducation / Experience\nB.A/ B.S.W. degree is required with at least two years youth services experience.\nExcellent verbal, analytical, written, communication, and organizational skills. \nAbility to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task. \nStrong interpersonal skills and time management skills. \nDemonstrated knowledge of community service/ development. \nMinimum intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Teams / Google Suite, Zoom, and other applications.\nCompetencies\nProblem Solving/ Analysis\nCommunication Proficiency\nCustomer Service/ Client Focus\nTeamwork Orientation\nTime Management/Ability to meet deadlines\nClearance\nEmployees must be clear to work at ESH.
