EHTP began in 1958 as a children's reading group and has since grown into a multi-site after-school program for traditional public school students and a network of public charter schools focused on significantly increasing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. \nAt EHTP we also aim to serve as an agent of change and thoughtfully contribute to the national fight for racial equity. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents and community. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness are key requirements.\nWho You Are\nYou hold yourself to high professional and ethical standards\nYou have experience with, or are excited about researching best practices in anti-racist pedagogy\nYou enjoy and/or have experience working with diverse populations of students and communities\nYou believe that every student can and will learn when provided with a quality education\nYou have demonstrated success in fostering the artistic proficiency of students who historically have not had equitable access to education opportunities\nYou are willing to be flexible in your role and adapt to school and student needs\nYou are committed to continuous improvement and learning through professional development\nConsult with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-post tryout informational parent meetings\nWork directly with the Athletic Director in reporting injuries, teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries\nModel good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community\nYou have an Associate’s degree or higher (preferred)\nYou have 2-4 years of experience coaching cheerleading at the high school level (head coaching experience preferred)\nYou possess effective coaching techniques and skills\nYou possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.\nYou possess the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with school administration and governing organizations (Charter School Athletic Association) opponents, staff, parents and students.\nYou have your CPR and AED certification\nWhat Success Looks Like\nPlan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the basketball program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections.
