The Quality Engineer (Customer & Projects) is responsible for leading customer quality and project quality assurance activities across the ANZ business, from early project engagement through Factory Witness Testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, delivery, commissioning and service handover. The role ensures customer, regulatory and Eaton quality requirements are identified and translated into appropriate project quality controls and effectively implemented throughout the project lifecycle. The position also leads customer quality issue resolution, escalation management and structured problem solving to improve customer satisfaction, prevent recurrence and strengthen project and operational quality performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project quality activities from early commercial and tender engagement through engineering, manufacturing, Factory Witness Testing, Factory Acceptance Testing, delivery, commissioning and service handover.
- Review customer specifications, contractual quality requirements and applicable standards, and ensure requirements are translated into appropriate project quality controls and deliverables.
- Develop and maintain project Quality Plans, inspection and test requirements, acceptance criteria, quality gates and other project-specific quality controls.
- Establish and manage quality gates throughout the project lifecycle, including bid, tender, design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, delivery and handover stages.
- Conduct quality reviews for strategic and high-risk projects to identify and mitigate quality risks before they result in customer, schedule, cost or operational impacts.
- Coordinate quality activities for Factory Witness Testing and Factory Acceptance Testing, including readiness reviews, quality documentation, issue resolution and closure of identified actions.
- Lead customer complaint, escalation and structured problem-solving processes, including containment, 8D, corrective action and effectiveness verification.
- Act as the primary Quality representative for customer quality communications, escalations and issue-resolution activities.
- Coordinate cross-functional resolution of customer and project quality issues with Engineering, Project Management, Service, Operations, Supplier Quality, Supply Chain, Sales and Product teams.
- Prioritise customer quality issues based on risk, customer criticality, operational impact and commercial context.
- Monitor customer and project quality performance, analyse trends and provide reporting and recommendations to drive continuous improvement.
- Capture and communicate Voice of the Customer, ensuring relevant quality expectations and lessons learned are incorporated into future projects, products and processes.
- Lead lessons learned activities and ensure identified actions and quality improvements are transferred across relevant projects and business functions.
- Partner with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Quality to ensure project and customer requirements are appropriately addressed within supplier and manufacturing activities.
- Support customer, project, supplier and internal quality audits where required.
- Support change control, risk assessment and quality governance activities associated with customer and project quality.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years' experience in Customer Quality, Project Quality, Quality Engineering, Product Engineering or Manufacturing Quality within an electrical, electromechanical, engineered-product or complex project-delivery environment.
- Experience in engineering, manufacturing, electrical or complex project delivery environments.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or equivalent recognised quality certification, would be advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, (Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality Engineering)
- Project Quality Assurance and Quality Planning.
- Customer complaint resolution and structured problem solving (8D, A3, RCA)
- FMEA, control plans and corrective action methodologies
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- Familiarity with switchgear, transformers, UPS systems or power distribution equipment (desirable)
