This role is based out of Raleigh, NC\nWe are seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the development, integration, and maintenance of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and Lithium-Ion Energy Storage System solutions. This role will focus on embedded software development, battery system integration, communication protocol implementation, and sustaining engineering activities for commercial and industrial power conversion products.\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for integrating Battery Management Systems (BMS) with UPS platforms, supporting fielded products, troubleshooting complex system issues, and contributing to the development of next-generation energy storage solutions.\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $94000 - $138000 a year.\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.\nWhat you’ll do:\nIn this role you will:\nDevelop, integrate, test, and maintain embedded software for UPS and Energy Storage System products.\nIntegrate Lithium-Ion battery systems and Battery Management Systems (BMS) with UPS control architecture.\nDesign, implement, and validate communication interfaces between UPS controllers and external battery systems.\nTroubleshoot communication, interoperability, and system-level integration issues between UPS, ESS, and associated control systems.\nSupport software releases for new product development and sustaining engineering activities.\nInvestigate and resolve customer-reported and field-observed software issues.\nPerform root cause analysis and corrective action development for product issues.\nCollaborate with controls, systems, hardware, and test engineering teams to ensure successful product integration.\nParticipate in software architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews.\nDevelop software requirements, design documentation, test procedures, and validation reports.\nSupport laboratory testing and validation activities involving UPS systems, batteries, and power electronic equipment.\nContribute to cybersecurity, reliability, and product lifecycle maintenance initiatives.\nQualifications:\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.\nMinimum 3 years of industry experience developing or supporting embedded software for industrial, energy storage, power electronics, or UPS products.\nExperience developing embedded software in C/C++.\nExperience troubleshooting and supporting released embedded products.\nExperience working in multidisciplinary product development environments.\nPreferred Qualifications\nMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.\nExperience with UPS, energy storage, power conversion, or electrical power system products.\nExperience integrating Lithium-Ion battery systems and Battery Management Systems.\nExperience integrating communication protocols in embedded systems.\nExperience implementing and troubleshooting MODBUS RTU and MODBUS TCP communications.\nExperience with CAN, CANopen, RS-485, Ethernet, and related industrial communication protocols.\nExperience with real-time embedded operating systems.\nKnowledge of power electronics, battery charging systems, and energy management systems.\nExperience with MATLAB/Simulink and model-based development.\nExperience supporting products through the full development lifecycle from concept through field support.\nFamiliarity with UL, IEC, and industry standards applicable to UPS and energy storage systems.\nExperience with Software Configuration Management and Git-based development workflows.\nExperience with LLM coding tools such as Copilot, Claude, or other harnessing\nExperience with Hardware in the Loop systems such as OPAL RT or Typhoon\nAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
