The Senior Engineering Manager position has direct reporting to the Head of Engineering. The primary function of this position is to manage the Mechanical Design and Development team and to provide support for the Critical Controls, Stores Ejection, and Data Processing value streams. This role manages engineering on new product development & introduction, research & development programs, and aftermarket programs working collaboratively with the program management and in-service support teams.\nThis role is responsible for the delivery and deployment of resources into the development and support projects of the engineering department. In support of other Senior Engineering Managers (SEMs) and under the guidance of the Head of Engineering this role will provide a suitably qualified and experienced team to meet the quantifiable needs of the business. You will also effectively manage risk and provide technical expertise to aid the Director of Engineering Development in satisfying the project needs of the business.\nWhat you’ll do:\nManagement and executional engineering functions and activities for New Product Introduction, Internal Research and Development, and Aftermarket along with support of the In-Service Support team.\nFocus on on-time delivery of project activities in order to meet an OTIF (On Time in Full) delivery. Ensure scope of work, budgets and deadlines are clearly understood.\nEnsure timely and appropriate preventative and corrective actions are taken as needed and ensure the quality of technical work meets the satisfaction of external and internal customers.\nResponsible for the engineering bid estimate of Non-Recurring Costs (NRC) and engineering schedule.\nDeliver current projects, work packages and activities within +/-5% of the current agreed planned cost and schedule. Deliver future bids within +/-5% of the as bid cost and schedule.\nBe proactive in identifying areas of risk and propose ideas for de-risking to the project team for review and action.\nEnsure that the financial and human resource requirements necessary to complete all projects are identified and clearly communicated to the leadership team. Lead, motivate and develop an engineering team of the correct size and with the necessary skills to deliver the budget and strategic plan objectives.\nStrengthen talent within the company by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, mentoring new employees, create opportunities for the growth and development of the existing engineering team.\nEvaluate employee performance and provide additional coaching and support as needed.\nEnsure continuous improvement and alignment of business processes, creating a team-focused environment where all collaborate and execute successfully.\nAssure appropriate product documentation, design standards, and related material specifications are developed. Assure that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to quality, reliability and cost.\nUse best practices of robust design (Design for Six Sigma, DFSS) & promote the “analysis first” mindset. \nIdentify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly.\nMaintain close liaison with customers for application reviews, developing new product requirements, and major modifications of existing products, prototype qualification test requirements and to resolve product performance deficiencies.\nOther duties as assigned.\nDomestic and international travel required.\nQualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution is required.\nPrevious success in managing engineers in a leadership role, preferably for a minimum of 5 years.\n10 years of experience within aerospace or a high-tech industry with new product development and sustaining support.\nAdvanced engineering degree or MBA preferred.\nCEng certification preferred\nExperience in conducting competitive analyses and defining/executing business level strategy.\nProven track record of driving change and ability to develop and execute technology development plans.Experience working with the Defence and Major Prime Contractors.\n\nBackground with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures.\nDFSS Greenbelt Certification\nFamiliarity with Electronic Control, Data Systems, and Pneumatic systems and/or products is preferred.\nSkills:\nDemonstrated leadership skills, experience with design processes, portfolio and program management skills, knowledge of customer strategies, successful new product introduction experience, creative/innovative thinking. \nCompetence in use of Microsoft Office products\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills\nWork in a matrix organization within a global virtual engineering organization\nNetwork divisional resources\nDevelop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering\nDevelop working relationships within the Aerospace engineering community\nDevelop working relationships with customers\nWhat we offer:\nOpportunity to work in a global, highly collaborative environment\nChallenging projects in dynamic collaborative team\nStrong focus on learning, development, and career progression\nCompetitive compensation and benefits package\nA culture that promotes inclusion, accountability, and continuous improvement\nAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
