Our teams build scalable platforms and services that support ad targeting, ranking, delivery, and measurement at global scale.\nThe Role\nWe are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer to help shape the architecture and technical direction of eBay’s Ads platform. You will lead large-scale initiatives, drive platform modernization, and build highly scalable distributed systems that directly impact eBay’s business and customer experience.\nWhat You Will Accomplish\nLead the design and evolution of large-scale, low-latency distributed systems\n\nDrive technical strategy and architecture across multiple engineering teams\n\nBuild scalable services supporting ad serving, targeting, ranking, and reporting\n\nPartner closely with product, data science, ML, and analytics teams\n\nImprove system reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency\n\nMentor engineers and influence engineering best practices across the organization\n\nDrive modernization initiatives and adoption of new technologies\n\nWhat You Will Bring\n10+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems and APIs\n\nStrong expertise in system design, distributed architectures, and cloud technologies\n\nExperience with Java, Scala, or other JVM-based technologies\n\nDeep understanding of messaging systems, databases, and real-time platforms\n\nProven technical leadership across complex cross-functional initiatives\n\nStrong communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills\n\nExperience in Ads platforms or ML-driven products is a plus\n\nQualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field\n\nExperience with:\nDistributed systems and microservices\n\nREST/GraphQL APIs\n\nKafka or similar messaging technologies\n\nRDBMS and NoSQL databases\n\nCloud-native and containerized environments\n\nWhat We Offer\nOpportunity to work on high-impact systems at global scale\n\nCollaborative, inclusive, and innovative engineering culture\n\nFlexible working environment and strong wellbeing support\n\nCompetitive compensation and comprehensive benefits\n\neBay is an equal opportunity employer.
