Backend Engineering with strong software development expertise and hands-on experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), observability, production troubleshooting, and incident management.\nThe ideal candidate will bring a backend-first engineering mindset, with a strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native architectures, along with the ability to build resilient applications, improve system reliability, and resolve complex production challenges.\nThis role combines backend software development with reliability engineering practices, working closely with Architecture, Platform, SRE, and Operations teams to deliver scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant solutions.\nWhat You Will Accomplish\nBackend Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and microservices using modern programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python.\nSystem Reliability & Performance: Build highly available, fault-tolerant, and resilient backend applications, focusing on performance optimization, scalability, and operational efficiency.\nObservability & Monitoring: Implement and enhance application monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, and alerting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and OpenTelemetry.\n Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement sustainable engineering solutions to prevent recurring incidents.\nDistributed Systems Engineering: Develop and optimize distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications to ensure reliability and seamless service performance.\nAutomation & Engineering Excellence: Build automation tools, improve deployment processes, and reduce operational overhead through engineering-driven solutions.\nProduction Support & Operational Readiness: Participate in incident response, production debugging, reliability reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nCross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering, Architecture, SRE, and Operations teams to improve application design, system availability, observability, and overall platform reliability.\nWhat You Will Bring\n4+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily in backend development, distributed systems, or platform engineering.\nStrong programming expertise in Java, Go, or Python, with hands-on experience developing production-grade backend applications.\nExperience designing and developing REST APIs, microservices, and scalable distributed systems.\nStrong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, system design, and software engineering best practices.\nHands-on experience with Spring Boot or equivalent backend development frameworks.\nExperience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices.\nPractical knowledge of SRE principles, application reliability, observability, and production incident management.\nExperience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.\nStrong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA) skills for complex production systems.\nFamiliarity with application performance monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, alerting, and incident response.\nUnderstanding of databases, caching, messaging systems, and performance optimization in distributed environments.\nStrong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.\nGood to Have\nExperience building internal developer tools, reliability automation, or operational platforms.\nKnowledge of SRE practices such as SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, error budgets, and capacity planning.\nExperience with Kafka, Redis, or other distributed messaging and caching technologies.\nExposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.\nExperience supporting large-scale, high-traffic production environments.\nIdeal Candidate Profile\nA strong Backend Software Engineer (Java/Go/Python) with experience building scalable microservices and distributed applications, complemented by practical exposure to SRE, observability, incident management, production debugging, and system reliability.\nPrimary Focus: Backend Engineering\nSecondary Focus: SRE, Observability, Incident Management & Reliability\nAdditional Details\neBay is an equal opportunity employer.
