The team designs and operates secure, scalable cryptographic platforms that enable trusted transactions, secure communications, and strong identity guarantees across millions of users and services.\nRole Summary\nWe are seeking a Software Engineer 3 (T24) to join our Bengaluru team with strong hands-on experience in cryptography, encryption, and public key infrastructure (PKI). In this role, you will design, build, and maintain secure, maintainable software components and services in the cryptography and platform security domain, working on production-ready systems with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and operational excellence.\nWhat You’ll Do\nBuild and enhance cryptographic libraries, integrations, and service components that support encryption, digital signatures, and secure key management.\n\nDevelop and maintain software systems that use public key cryptography, including RSA, ECC, and digital signature workflows.\n\nContribute to PKI, certificate-management capabilities, and trust frameworks used by internal platforms and services.\n\nImplement extensible, maintainable software solutions for secure service integrations and platform capabilities.\n\nSupport production readiness through testing, monitoring, operational improvements, and continuous integration practices.\n\nTranslate feature requests into design options, engineering tasks, and effort estimates for the team.\n\nParticipate in threat modeling, security reviews, and validation of cryptographic designs and implementation choices.\n\nImprove the performance, scalability, and resilience of cryptographic operations in distributed, high-throughput systems.\n\nStay current with modern cryptographic standards, vulnerabilities, and secure development best practices.\n\nMust-Have Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n\n5+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful hands-on work in security, cryptography, or secure platform development.\n\nStrong programming skills in Go, Java, or C++, with the ability to build production-quality backend software.\n\nHands-on experience with cryptographic concepts and algorithms such as AES, RSA, ECC, DSA, and digital signatures.\n\nStrong understanding of PKI, certificate management, and secure key handling concepts.\n\nExperience with secure application development using technologies such as JCA, JCE, or similar security libraries and frameworks.\n\nFamiliarity with PKCS#11, KMIP, or similar key management protocols and integrations.\n\nGood understanding of distributed systems, secure service design, and secure coding practices, including common cryptographic pitfalls.\n\nExperience working independently on components or sub-systems, with accountability for delivery, quality, and production support.\n\nNice-to-Have Qualifications\nExperience with hardware-backed security, HSM integrations, or TPM-related capabilities.\n\nExposure to modern cryptographic evolution areas such as post-quantum cryptography.\n\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude, with sound judgment around code quality, security, and performance.\n\nWhy This Role Matters\nThis role is an opportunity to help build and evolve the security foundations that underpin eBay’s marketplace at scale.
