Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team responsible for our Unified Data Platform, a foundational platform supporting large-scale data processing, analytics, search, and data-driven applications across the company.

The team owns critical platform capabilities including Hadoop, ETL and data processing platforms, Elasticsearch, Apache Airflow, and Data Lake Studio.

In this role, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for building, operating, and evolving highly scalable and reliable data infrastructure. You will define technical and organizational priorities, drive platform strategy and execution, and partner with engineering teams across the company to provide efficient, reliable, and easy-to-use data platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & People Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software and platform engineers responsible for business-critical data infrastructure.
• Define engineering priorities and translate platform strategy into clear, executable roadmaps.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on technical excellence, ownership, reliability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Recruit, develop, and retain strong engineering talent through coaching, career development, and performance management.
• Partner with senior engineers and architects to drive technical direction and long-term platform evolution.

Platform Ownership & Strategy

• Own the strategy, architecture, roadmap, and execution for the Unified Data Platform, including:Hadoop Platform - large-scale distributed storage and data processing infrastructure.ETL Platform - scalable infrastructure and frameworks for production data pipelines.Apache Airflow - workflow orchestration, scheduling, and operational capabilities.Elasticsearch Platform - large-scale search, indexing, and data-serving infrastructure.Data Lake Studio - developer-facing tools and experiences for data development, discovery, processing, and analytics.
• Drive platform standardization and integration to provide a consistent experience across storage, compute, data processing, orchestration, and developer tooling.
• Develop self-service platform capabilities that simplify infrastructure complexity and improve engineering productivity.
• Drive architectural evolution to support increasing scale, workload diversity, reliability, and business requirements.
• Identify opportunities to simplify the platform, reduce operational complexity, and improve infrastructure efficiency.

Reliability & Operational Excellence

• Ensure scalability, availability, performance, security, and operational excellence across mission-critical platforms.
• Establish and track platform SLAs/SLOs and engineering metrics around reliability, performance, capacity, adoption, and efficiency.
• Drive improvements in observability, automation, capacity management, incident response, and disaster recovery.
• Lead technical reviews and post-incident analysis for significant platform issues and drive systemic improvements.
• Promote engineering practices that improve platform resilience and reduce operational overhead.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner with data engineering, analytics, infrastructure, security, and application teams to understand requirements and establish platform priorities.
• Balance investments in platform reliability, technical modernization, and new capabilities.
• Drive adoption of common platform capabilities and reduce fragmented or duplicated infrastructure.
• Communicate platform strategy, priorities, technical trade-offs, risks, and progress to engineering leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years software engineering experience, including engineering management or technical leadership experience.
• 5+ years experience building and operating large-scale platform, infrastructure, distributed systems, or data infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, platform architecture, scalability, reliability, and production operations.
• Experience leading teams responsible for highly available, large-scale production platforms or infrastructure.
• Experience defining technical strategy and driving complex, multi-quarter engineering initiatives involving multiple systems and teams.
• Strong engineering judgment with the ability to evaluate architecture, technical trade-offs, operational risks, and long-term platform investments.
• Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and lead high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading teams responsible for large-scale data platforms, infrastructure platforms, distributed systems, or developer platforms.
• Experience with technologies in areas such as distributed storage and compute, data processing, workflow orchestration, search infrastructure, or data engineering platforms.
• Experience building internal platforms and self-service infrastructure used by large engineering organizations.
• Experience modernizing large-scale infrastructure while maintaining production reliability.
• Experience driving improvements in platform scalability, reliability, developer productivity, and infrastructure efficiency.
• Ability to operate effectively across deep technical discussions, people leadership, organizational planning, and long-term platform strategy.
