Financial Controller

Ebury Madrid Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home per week

We are looking for a Financial Controller, a technical accounting and IFRS expert, to take a leading role in producing the Group consolidated financial statements, run the Group audit,oversee the statutory audits of our subsidiaries and present Group monthly reporting packs - along with detailed variance analysis - to senior leadership. You will be the go-to person for complex accounting questions, and you will lead and develop a talented team of accountants.

This is a high-visibility role in our Global Finance team. You will work closely with the Group CFO and senior finance leadership, and your work will directly shape how Ebury reports, grows and scales.

What you’ll do

Group reporting & consolidation

• Own the preparation of the Group's annual consolidated financial statements under IFRS, including primary statements, notes and disclosures.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly and year-end consolidation across a multi-entity, multi-currency group: having an understanding of intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, FX translation, goodwill and non-controlling interests.
• Own the Group close calendar and reporting timetable, and keep improving the quality, speed and control of the consolidation process.

Technical accounting & IFRS

• Act as the Group's reference point for technical accounting. Research, document and present accounting position papers on complex or non-routine transactions.
• Apply and interpret key standards relevant to our business, including IFRS 9 (financial instruments and derivatives), IFRS 15, IFRS 16, IFRS 10 / IFRS 3 (consolidation and business combinations) among others.
• Participate in IFRS 18 adoption.
• Maintain the Group accounting policies manual, monitor upcoming changes to IFRS, and assess and implement their impact across the Group.

Group & subsidiary audits

• Participate as key contact in the Group external audit from start to finish: planning, requests delivery, key judgements and estimates, and final sign-off.
• Oversee statutory audits of subsidiaries in multiple jurisdictions, coordinating with local teams and auditors, and ensuring local GAAP to IFRS alignment and on-time filings, meeting regulatory deadlines.
• Prepare clear papers on significant accounting matters and audit findings for the Finance Director, CFO and the Audit Committee.

Leadership & collaboration

• Lead, coach and develop a team of Financial Accountants. Set clear goals, review work to a high standard and build strong technical capability.
• Work with Tax, Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, FP&A and local entity finance teams to keep the Group's numbers consistent and robust.
• Strengthen internal controls and drive automation and system improvements across the record-to-report process.

What you’ll need

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, Spanish ROAC or equivalent).
• At least 7 years' experience in accounting and financial reporting, including time in Big 4 audit, ideally followed by an in-house group reporting or financial control role.
• Deep IFRS and technical accounting knowledge, with the confidence to form, document and defend accounting positions. US GAAP is a plus.
• Hands-on consolidation experience, including preparing consolidated financial statements for an international multi-entity group.
• A track record of leading external audits and working effectively with auditors at partner level.
• Proven people management: you have built, led and developed high-performing finance teams.
• Experience in financial services, banking, payments or FinTech is a plus, particularly with IFRS 9 and FX products.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly and new projects frequently arise. Proven resilience in managing multiple competing demands while maintaining high standards.
• Experience or familiarity with UK-based group consolidated accounts and relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., the UK Companies Act) is highly desirable.
• Advanced Excel skills. Experience with consolidation tools and ERP systems is desirable.
• Excellent written and spoken English; Spanish is a plus.
• A structured, detail-focused approach, combined with the ability to see the big picture, prioritise under tight deadlines and communicate complex topics simply.
