Let's rewrite the rules together.\nController - Echelon Fitness\nStuart, Florida preferred; remote candidates considered\nThe Opportunity\nEchelon Fitness is seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function and manage a team of 12.\nWe are looking for a confident, decisive leader who combines strong technical accounting expertise with the ability to build an organized, accountable, high-performing team. The right candidate will take ownership of financial accuracy, establish disciplined processes, and ensure leadership receives timely, reliable financial information.\nThis is not a purely supervisory role. You must be willing to get into the details, resolve issues, coach your team, and follow through until the work is complete.\nCandidates located near Stuart, Florida, are preferred. We are also open to exceptional remote candidates who demonstrate the leadership, communication, and organizational skills needed to manage a distributed team effectively.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead, coach, and develop a 12-person accounting team, with clear responsibilities, deadlines, and performance expectations.\nOwn the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate financial statements and timely reporting.\nOversee accounting across Echelon's entities, ensuring accurate reporting, timely reconciliations, and consistent close procedures across NetSuite and the QuickBooks environments used by our Canadian and UK companies.\nOversee general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other core accounting activities.\nMaintain strong accounting policies and internal controls to protect company assets and support accurate financial reporting.\nEnsure appropriate application of U.S. GAAP and consistent accounting practices.\nOversee inventory and cost accounting, revenue recognition, and related reconciliations.\nPartner with finance and business leaders on cash flow visibility, working capital, financial analysis, and operational decisions.\nCoordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.\nIdentify and resolve accounting issues, reconciliation backlogs, and process gaps.\nImprove accounting systems, workflows, documentation, and automation to reduce manual work and increase reliability.\nCommunicate financial results, risks, and priorities clearly to senior leadership.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.\n8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader.\nDemonstrated success managing and developing an accounting team.\nStrong command of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.\nStrong hands-on experience with NetSuite and QuickBooks. Echelon uses NetSuite and uses QuickBooks for its Canadian and UK companies. Candidates must be comfortable overseeing accounting across multiple entities and accounting systems.\nExperience with inventory-based businesses and multiple revenue streams; consumer products, e-commerce, subscription, or connected fitness experience is a plus.\nExcellent analytical skills and the ability to identify problems, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions.\nProven ability to manage competing priorities without sacrificing accuracy or accountability.\nExperience leading remote or geographically distributed employees is a plus.\nProficiency with AI tools, including Claude, and comfort using them to speed up analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and process documentation, with careful review for accuracy.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nA well-managed accounting team that understands its responsibilities and consistently meets deadlines.\nA predictable, timely close supported by complete reconciliations and reliable financial statements.\nClear ownership of accounting issues and prompt resolution of outstanding items.\nStronger controls, documented processes, and fewer manual workarounds.\nA trusted partnership with leadership built on accuracy, transparency, and follow-through.\nHow to Apply\nSubmit your résumé and a brief summary of your experience leading accounting teams.
