This role owns assigned accounts and processes, partners cross-functionally to resolve issues, and contributes to continuous improvement in reporting and controls while expanding exposure to investment accounting and structured finance products in a growing, multi-company financial services entity. An accountant takes end-to-end ownership of assigned areas to deliver timely and accurate financial information to management of ECMC Group and affiliated entities. Under some supervision, this position is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and reporting operations in a complex environment, including maintaining and reviewing supporting work papers, coordinating inputs for filings and provisions, preparing tax schedules, and partnering with external advisors to support compliance and reporting needs. The accountant maintains well documented processes, collaborates closely with auditors and cross functional partners, and strengthens both technical accounting and analytical skills through meaningful variance and trend analysis.\nThis position is classified as hybrid and requires attendance in office, Monday - Wednesday in Minneapolis, MN.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nPerforms month end close activities with increasing ownership for assigned areas, including preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining schedules, reconciling intercompany activity, and completing financial statement tie outs.\n\nPrepares and maintains complex general ledger activity including balance sheet account reconciliations; research variances, resolve reconciling items, and document conclusions.\n\nProcesses routine accounting transactions and maintain accounting estimates to ensure appropriate coding, documentation, and adherence to internal controls.\n\nProvides and maintains documentation with respect to account variances, roll forwards, supporting schedules, financial statement ratios, cash flows, explanations, and other key accounting schedules, ensuring workpapers are accurate, well-supported, and audit ready.\n\nPerforms investment accounting and reporting activities with increasing ownership, including accounting for structured finance products, capital activity tracking, waterfall support, and compilation/analysis of valuation inputs and disclosures.\n\nSupports recurring and ad hoc FP&A activities, including planning templates, variance support, and compiling inputs for forecast and budget cycles.\n\nAssists external audit and tax compliance activities by preparing schedules, compiling supporting documentation, and responding to auditor and advisor inquiries with accurate, timely, and comprehensive information.\n\nServes as the primary owner for assigned accounting processes and accounts, coordinating cross-functional inputs, managing deliverables and deadlines, proactively resolving issues, and driving continuous improvements to process efficiency, internal controls, and reporting quality.\n\nOwns accounting areas end-to-end, serving as the primary point of contact to coordinate inputs, manage deadlines and deliverables, resolve issues proactively, and identify opportunities to improve process efficiency and control design\n\nPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.\n\n1+ years of progressive accounting, auditing, or financial reporting experience.\n\nFoundational knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting concepts.\n\nExperience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.\n\nProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills such as pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and data analysis techniques.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in accounting\n\nCertified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active pursuit of CPA certification.\n\nPublic accounting experience.\n\nExperience supporting month-end close, audits, tax reporting, or financial statement preparation.\n\nExperience in financial services, banking, investment management, structured finance, or nonprofit organizations.\n\nFamiliarity with Workday Financial Management or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.\n\nExperience working in a complex, multi-entity or multi-company environment.\n\nExposure to investment accounting, fixed-income securities, or structured finance products.\n\nThe pay range for this position is $68,000 - 80,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, peer and market benchmarks, and geographic location.
