This position is responsible for leading the full product lifecycle-from initial concept and prototyping through to testing, validation, and mass production.\nThe role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure efficient, high-performance, and scalable designs. A strong emphasis is placed on continuous product improvement, optimizing for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.\nIdeal candidates possess a solid mechanical engineering background, hands-on experience with CAD and simulation tools, and strong communication skills to effectively drive projects and coordinate across teams.\nResponsibilities:\nLead the NPI design of Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) through concept development, prototyping, DVT, UL Certification, and PVT to product launch and mass production.\nSupport rapid iteration of design concepts through technology assessment, feasibility analysis, and proofs of concept, oversee the building and testing of thermal, hydraulic, and integrated assembly prototypes for validation.\nWork closely with core teams, customers, and industry partners to ensure our CDU designs are delivered on time, meeting and exceeding market needs.\nCollaborate with industry groups to define and influence emerging standards and best practices.\nInnovate and advance the state of the art for CDU component and system design, maintaining Cool IT competitive advantage.\nDetailed product design using principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanical engineering with a focus on delivering high performance and high reliability products.\nCreate detailed engineering drawings, reports, design reviews, and other documentation to clearly explain convey design ideas, test results, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders\nReview and approve designs, drawings, and other engineering documentation.\nContinuously look for ways to make our CDU designs better performing, improve reliability, reduce costs, and increase efficiency\nBasic Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or directly related discipline.\nMinimum of 8 years relevant mechanical engineering experience with 2+ years in a design role.\nProven understanding of designing parts and assemblies for high volume production.\nProven understanding of fluid dynamics principles, especially as they relate to heat transfer and fluid flow in cooling systems.\nProcess piping, P&ID and building mechanical design, particularly with respect to HVAC and fluid transfer.\nUnderstanding of pump, motor, heat exchanger, and sensor selection, testing, and validation.\nDeep familiarity with NPI, PLM, and PDM processes and how they contribute to engineering change management.\nPreferredQualifications:\nProfessional engineering designation with APEGA,or eligibility to obtain P.Eng status with 12 months.\nThe ideal candidate would have direct experience in product design and building mechanical or HVAC industries.\nExperience with rapid prototyping manufacturing techniques and testing of thermal/mechanical components; familiarity with lab equipment for data collection.\nSkills:\nProficiency in using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for detailed mechanical designs & drawings.\nProficiency with advanced finite element computer simulations, particularly in CFD, heat transfer, and seismic analysis.\nDetailed design calculations; heat transfer, fluid mechanics, piping design, stress/strain, and HVAC.\nDesign for Lean Six Sigma or related statistical product design methodologies (Preferred).\nEffective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.\nStrong problem-solving, analysis, and risk mitigation skills.\nExcellent time management and organizational skills.\nDeep technical review of component and assembly designs, maintaining best practices and enforcing technical rigor in engineering approvals\nManagement of Engineering Changes for NPI and Sustaining products.\nMentoring and guidance of junior team members.\nWHY COOLIT?\nWe strive to be an employer of choice and as such we believe in rewarding our employees with career and development opportunities that will maintain and strengthen our culture while aligning to our vision and values.\nWe are a company that is full of vibrant, innovative people who love what we do.
