Implements a comprehensive program for quality control of the radiation-producing equipment to assure their constant acceptable performance, for patient safety and treatment efficacy.\nThe Oncology Physicist assists in the implementation and quality assurance of the planning and delivery of radiotherapy, including technical specifications / tolerances as well as the flow of procedures entailed in the process, including the supervision and QC review of treatment plans and dose calculations.\n Responsibilities Complexity of Duties and Responsibilities:\nJob activities are fairly complex and highly diversified but are structured within a pre-defined work routine. Involves the exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions regarding patient care or practice problems to determine what action should be taken within the specifications of standard practice.\nSupervisory Accountability:\nThis position is responsible for the supervision of the work of the Dosimetrist and Radiation Therapists. This position is responsible for guiding the work of the Radiation Oncology Department. \nConfidentiality:\nWorks with confidential data on a daily basis as related to patient/agency specific information, records and contacts. \nInterpersonal Contacts:\nThe individual in this position has frequent/on-going contact and communication with physicians, patients, families, the general public, staff and volunteers of non-profit groups, and with the staff of other health care agencies and institutions. The individual in this position also has frequent contact and communication with hospital leadership, administrators and other staff members. The duties of this position require teamwork and collaboration. The communication is most often complex, confidential and of significance to the population.\nImpact of Actions and Decisions:\nErrors are detectable. Effect not contained to the hospital. Errors could result in monetary loss. Must have working knowledge of compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency standards. High impact on patient welfare. Must have working knowledge of individual role as it applies to the Patient Safety Plan.\nPhysical Demand/Working Conditions:\nSomewhat discomforting physical demands and/or working conditions. Exposure to situations such as continuous lifting, computer activity, discomforting levels of noise, dust, heat, fumes, and other elements but with none present to the extent of being continually discomforting. Slight probability of significant accident or health hazards or exposure to blood borne pathogens. Exposure to radioactive material.
