This role is responsible for the development, integration, production support, and maintenance of firmware for advanced electronic systems and subsystems used in demanding aerospace and defense environments.\nThe ideal candidate will have strong expertise in FPGA firmware development, VHDL design, embedded systems, and SoC architectures, with experience supporting products throughout the full development lifecycle from concept and design through verification, integration, and production.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nFirmware Development\nDesign, develop, and implement FPGA firmware using VHDL for FPGA, SoC, and CPLD platforms.\nOptimize firmware implementations for resource-constrained devices such as Intel Max10 CPLDs.\nLead full FPGA development lifecycle activities from requirements through deployment.\nDevelop Board Support Packages (BSPs) and peripheral interfaces.\nEnsure firmware development complies with applicable aerospace and defense standards, including DO-254.\nVerification, Simulation & Testing\nDevelop automated test benches for firmware verification.\nPerform simulation, debugging, and validation of FPGA and SoC designs.\nTroubleshoot and resolve issues at PCB assembly level involving digital and analog circuitry.\nSupport system integration, verification, and production activities.\nFPGA & PCB Design Collaboration\nContribute to FPGA-based digital circuit design reviews.\nWork closely with PCB and E-CAD engineers to ensure successful hardware integration.\nVerify firmware compatibility with electronic components and board architectures.\nSupport PCB assembly testing and debugging activities.\nEmbedded Software Integration\nDevelop embedded C software to interface FPGA firmware with SoC platforms.\nCollaborate with software engineers to implement robust hardware-software solutions.\nSupport integration activities across firmware, software, and hardware teams.\nDocumentation & Compliance\nProduce high-quality technical documentation including requirements, design descriptions, verification plans, and test reports.\nEnsure documentation complies with defense, aerospace, and industry standards.\nSupport compliance activities related to DO-254 and DO-178 processes where applicable.\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree (4-year) or higher in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.\n5-8 years of hands-on FPGA firmware development experience.\nExperience within aerospace, defense, or other high-technology industries is preferred.\nTechnical Skills\nStrong proficiency in VHDL development and verification.\nExperience with Intel Altera and/or AMD Xilinx FPGA families (Cyclone, Zynq-7000, etc.).\nExperience with CPLD devices, particularly Intel Max10.\nEmbedded C development on SoC platforms.\nStrong understanding of digital and analog circuit design and PCB debugging.\nKnowledge of aerospace and defense standards including DO-254 and DO-178.\nPreferred Tools\nAMD Xilinx Vivado\nIntel Quartus Prime / Quartus II\nHDL Designer\nAltium Designer\nEclipse\nGit\nModelSim / Questa\nWHY CHOOSE EDGE\nLaunched in November 2019, the UAE's EDGE is one of the world's leading advanced technology groups, established to develop agile, bold and disruptive solutions for defence and beyond, and to be a catalyst for change and transformation.
