This is an opportunity to contribute to business-critical systems, solve complex technical challenges and gain experience on a high-visibility enterprise technology project.\nThe company is seeking Intermediate Java Developers to support a Business Support Systems (BSS) modernisation programme for one of South Africa's largest telecommunications operators, delivered through an established international technology group. You will work on large-scale billing and operational platforms, developing and maintaining Java services, optimising database performance and supporting integrations across complex enterprise environments.\nThis role offers a balance of hands-on development, systems integration, deployment support and direct engagement with customer teams. You will work within an Agile delivery environment, contributing to testing and acceptance processes while helping maintain systems that support essential telecommunications operations.\nThe position is suited to developers who combine strong Java fundamentals with practical database expertise, Linux administration and containerisation experience. The engagement is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a hybrid arrangement and a preference for two days per week at the company's Centurion offices. Equipment, tools and licences will be provided.\nWhat You'll Do\nDevelop, enhance and maintain Java services within a large-scale telecommunications billing and operations platform.\n\nBuild and support enterprise applications using Java, J2EE and Spring.\n\nWrite, analyse and optimise complex SQL queries across multiple database platforms.\n\nWork with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL environments as required.\n\nDeploy, maintain and support containerised applications in Linux environments.\n\nUse Bash scripting to support deployments, automation and server administration.\n\nWork with Docker and Kubernetes to deploy and support application services.\n\nImplement system integrations using message queues, including RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ.\n\nWork with J2EE application containers and web servers.\n\nParticipate in Scrum and Agile delivery processes, using Git for version control and collaboration.\n\nFacilitate Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions with customer teams.\n\nSupport application testing and API validation using tools such as Postman.\n\nInvestigate technical issues, troubleshoot application behaviour and contribute to reliable system delivery.\n\nCollaborate with developers, technical stakeholders and customer teams to meet project requirements.\n\nSupport occasional work outside standard business hours when required by business-critical systems.\n\nWhat You Bring\nA relevant IT qualification, such as a BSc in Computer Science, BSc in Information Technology or a comparable qualification.\n\nFour to six years of commercial Java development experience.\n\nStrong hands-on Java development skills, including J2EE and Spring.\n\nDemonstrable experience writing and optimising complex SQL queries.\n\nExposure to one or more of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL.\n\nPractical Linux experience, including Bash scripting, server administration and deployments.\n\nExperience deploying or supporting applications using Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nFamiliarity with message queueing technologies such as RabbitMQ or ActiveMQ.\n\nExperience with J2EE containers and web servers.\n\nWorking knowledge of Git and Scrum or Agile delivery methodologies.\n\nTesting experience, including FAT, UAT facilitation and Postman.\n\nStrong communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with technical and customer stakeholders.\n\nA self-motivated, accountable approach and the ability to remain effective under pressure.\n\nWillingness to work
