The role requires strong civil and maritime engineering expertise, with particular emphasis on port infrastructure, marine structures, terminal facilities, pavement and utility systems, and multidisciplinary design coordination.\nThe position will support projects from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, tender documentation, construction support, and commissioning. The engineer will work closely with clients, port operators, contractors, specialist consultants, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.\nKey Responsibilities\nPort & Marine Infrastructure Design\nLead and undertake engineering design for port and marine infrastructure, including:Quay walls and berthing structures\nJetties, piers, dolphins, and access trestles\nRo-Ro ramps and ferry facilities\nBreakwaters and coastal protection works\nRevetments and shoreline structures\nDredging and reclamation works\nPort basins, navigation channels, and turning circles\nContainer, bulk, general cargo, and multipurpose terminal infrastructure\n\nDevelop engineering solutions considering vessel characteristics, operational requirements, geotechnical conditions, marine environment, constructability, durability, and whole-life performance.\nReview and coordinate structural, geotechnical, coastal, pavement, drainage, utilities, and marine systems designs.\nLandside Port Infrastructure\nDevelop and review designs for:Heavy-duty port pavements and container yards\nInternal port roads and access infrastructure\nTerminal drainage systems\nUtility corridors and service networks\nRail interfaces where applicable\nTerminal buildings and ancillary infrastructure interfaces\nGates, security infrastructure, fencing, and operational areas\n\nCoordinate infrastructure layouts with terminal planning and cargo-handling equipment requirements, including STS cranes, RTGs/RMGs, mobile harbour cranes, reach stackers, conveyors, and other terminal equipment.\nEngineering Analysis & Technical Documentation\nPrepare and review:Feasibility and technical studies\nBasis of Design and design criteria\nConcept, preliminary, and detailed engineering designs\nEngineering calculations\nTechnical specifications\nDesign drawings\nBills of quantities and cost estimates\nTender documentation\nTechnical reports and design submissions\n\nUndertake technical evaluations and option studies to identify appropriate engineering solutions.\nEnsure designs comply with relevant international and local standards, codes, client requirements, and good maritime engineering practice.\nTender & Procurement Support\nSupport preparation of EPC, Design-Build, and traditional design-bid-build tender packages.\nPrepare scopes of work, technical specifications, drawings, schedules, and employer's requirements.\nReview contractor and consultant technical proposals.\nParticipate in technical bid evaluations, clarifications, and tender negotiations.\nReview contractor design proposals, methodologies, value-engineering proposals, and alternative technical solutions.\nConstruction & Site Support\nProvide engineering support during construction.\nReview:Contractor design submissions\nShop drawings\nMethod statements\nMaterial submissions\nRFIs and technical queries\nTemporary works proposals\n\nParticipate in site inspections and technical meetings as required.\nAssist in resolving design and construction interface issues.\nReview design changes and assess their technical, cost, programme, and operational implications.\nSupport testing, commissioning, handover, and close-out activities.\nMultidisciplinary Coordination\nCoordinate with:Structural engineers\nGeotechnical engineers\nCoastal and hydraulic engineers\nDredging and reclamation specialists\nTerminal planners\nRoads and pavement engineers\nDrainage and utilities engineers\nElectrical and mechanical engineers\nEnvironmental specialists\nBIM/CAD teams\nQuantity surveyors and cost consultants\n\nManage technical interfaces between marine structures, landside infrastructure, terminal operations, and cargo-handling systems.\nParticipate in design reviews, workshops, HAZID/risk reviews, constructability reviews, and value-engineering exercises.\nTechnical Leadership\nProvide technical guidance to engineers, designers, and CAD/BIM personnel.\nReview engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports prepared by junior engineers.\nEnsure appropriate QA/QC procedures are implemented.\nIdentify technical risks and develop mitigation measures.\nPromote technically robust, safe, constructible, sustainable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.\nContribute to development and implementation of engineering standards and best practices within the port and maritime team.\nQualifications\nBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a closely related discipline.\nMaster's degree in Civil, Structural, Maritime, Coastal, Geotechnical, or Port Engineering is advantageous.\nChartered Engineer, Professional Engineer, or equivalent professional registration is preferred.\nExperience\nTypically 10-15+ years of relevant civil/infrastructure engineering experience, with substantial experience in ports, maritime infrastructure, marine structures, or major heavy civil infrastructure.\nDemonstrable experience in the design and/or delivery of major port and marine projects.\nExperience through multiple project stages, preferably including feasibility, concept design, detailed design, tendering, and construction.\nMiddle East/GCC port infrastructure experience is advantageous.\nExperience working for an engineering consultant, port authority, developer, or major marine contractor is desirable.\nTechnical Knowledge\nStrong knowledge of several of the following areas is expected:\nQuay wall and marine structure design\nBerthing and mooring constructability\nInternational maritime and civil engineering standards\nFamiliarity with relevant guidance and standards such as PIANC, BS/Eurocodes, ACI, AASHTO, CIRIA, ROM, OCIMF and applicable local authority requirements is
