About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Water Services team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann and contractor clients across Ireland. We are happy for this role to be based from either Dublin, Castlebar, Limerick or Cork working on a hybrid basis.

The role will involve leading and delivering structural engineering solutions from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design and construction support. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with project management capabilities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery

  • Lead the structural design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including:
    • Reinforced concrete tanks and reservoirs
    • Pumping stations
    • Treatment plant structures
    • Stormwater attenuation structures
    • Retaining walls
    • Buried structures and chambers
    • Steel-framed process buildings and ancillary structures
  • Deliver feasibility studies, options assessments, concept designs, preliminary designs, and detailed designs.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, design reports, specifications, drawings, and tender documentation.
  • Undertake structural assessments of existing assets and develop rehabilitation and upgrade solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with Eurocodes, Irish Standards, Uisce Éireann standards, and relevant industry guidance.
  • Coordinate civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and geotechnical interfaces to achieve integrated design solutions.

Project Management

  • Manage the delivery of projects and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Act as Project Manager or Design Lead on selected projects.
  • Develop project programmes, resource plans, and fee forecasts.
  • Monitor project budgets, scope, schedule, and risks.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors, regulators, and stakeholders.
  • Support procurement, tender evaluations, and contractor engagement activities.
  • Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases, including site visits and design reviews.

Leadership & Business Development

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.
  • Undertake technical reviews and provide quality assurance for project deliverables.
  • Support bid preparation, proposal writing, and business development activities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and technical standards

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Ireland, ICE, IStructE, or equivalent) or close to achieving chartership.
  • Minimum 8-10 years' relevant experience in structural engineering.
  • Proven experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete and steel design.
  • Experience working on projects for Uisce Éireann, local authorities, design-build contractors, or water utility clients.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and buildability considerations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to undertake site visits.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within design-and-build and EPC contract environments.
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and Common Data Environments.
  • Experience with condition assessments and asset upgrade projects.
  • Familiarity with NEC, Public Works Contracts, or FIDIC forms of contract.
  • Experience managing stakeholder engagement and client relationships.
