Strong technical assurance and high-quality insight are essential to protect programme integrity and support confident decision-making.\nThe Technical Analysis Lead is a senior specialist role within the PMO. You will provide independent, evidence-based technical assurance of schedules, delay events, tender submissions and material programme changes, while translating detailed analysis into clear insight at project, programme and portfolio level.\nActing independently from delivery, you will be a trusted technical authority for governance forums, commercial decision-making and senior leadership.\nResponsibilities\nProvide independent technical assurance of delay events from a programme and schedule perspective, testing cause, effect and critical-path impact.\n\nValidate the quality and completeness of contemporaneous evidence and challenge assumptions, logic, sequencing and modelling approaches.\n\nAssess schedule structure, logic integrity, constraints, float paths and interfaces, identifying weaknesses and unrealistic assumptions.\n\nTest schedule robustness at baseline, re-baseline and recovery stages, providing early warning of technical schedule risk.\n\nEvaluate tender and proposal schedules, benchmarking durations, productivity assumptions and sequencing against established norms.\n\nIdentify optimism bias, under-developed logic and high-risk assumptions, presenting clear evidence-based findings to commercial and governance teams.\n\nSupport decisions on change, intervention, re-baselining and recovery strategy, clearly separating technical fact from opinion or assumption.\n\nTranslate assurance outputs and performance data into programme and portfolio insight, including trends, recurring weaknesses and systemic issues.\n\nShare learning, comparative analysis and benchmarking across projects and contractors to support delivery excellence.\n\n Experience\nStrong background in programme controls, schedule analysis and forensic planning techniques.\n\nExperience of delivery and management on transmission projects within a regulated environment, gained across contractor, client and/or consultancy settings.\n\nProven experience providing independent technical assurance on complex infrastructure programmes.\n\nAdvanced knowledge of critical-path analysis, delay analysis methodologies and schedule diagnostics.\n\nExpert capability in planning tools and techniques, particularly Primavera P6.\n\nStrong understanding of NEC programming, early warnings and compensation event impacts.\n\nAbility to challenge planning assumptions, evidence and modelling logic with strong analytical capability, professional judgement and independence.\n\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills, including translating complex analysis into clear insight for senior stakeholders.\n\nDesirable\nA numerate, engineering, project management or related qualification.\n\nMembership of a relevant professional organisation, such as APM.\n\nExperience of major multi-disciplinary projects involving design, consenting and construction.\n\n Location\nVariable base.
