This role is crucial in maintaining quality control, conducting various analytical tests, and supporting the development of our groundbreaking methane pyrolysis technology.\nReporting Relationship\nReports to: Carbon Program Manager\nDirect Reports: None\nPrimary Objectives\nEnsure accurate and timely laboratory analysis to support facility operations\nMaintain laboratory quality standards and equipment integrity\nSupport process optimization through data collection and analysis\nContribute to the development of standard operating procedures and safety protocols\nJob Responsibilities\nLaboratory Operations\nConduct sampling and analysis using chromatography (GCFID, GCT), spectroscopy, and various physical/chemical separation techniques\nOperate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus\nSet up and execute chemical experiments, tests, and analyses\nSupervise and coordinate daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, inventory, and workflow management\nImplement quality assurance programs and maintain quality standards\nMaintain and calibrate laboratory equipment; coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance\nOversee procurement of lab supplies, reagents, and equipment\nCollaborate with research or technical teams to support experiments and projects\nEnsure proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste\nManage the physical layout of the laboratory, ensuring optimal placement of equipment and workstations for safety, efficiency, and workflow\nCollect, prepare, and analyze process samples according to ASTM standards for carbon black\nDocumentation and Reporting\nCompile and maintain accurate records for analytical studies\nComplete logbooks and technical reports\nCollect and analyze operational and experimental data\nDevelop, implement, and update laboratory policies, procedures, and quality assurance protocols\nQuality and Safety\nAssist in developing sampling and analysis programs\nContribute to the development of standards and health/safety measures\nEnsure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations\nConduct regular process inspections\nMonitor and adjust machine/equipment controls as needed\nSkills and Qualifications\nDiploma or degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, or related field with +5 years experience (carbon black experience preferred)\nProficiency in laboratory techniques including chromatography and spectroscopy\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nExcellent attention to detail\nProficiency in MS Office Suite\nWhat Success Looks Like\nConsistent accuracy in analytical results and documentation\nProactive equipment maintenance and calibration\nEffective collaboration with team members\nContribution to process improvements\nAdherence to safety protocols and quality standards\nWork Environment\nThe work location is the Ekona head office in Burnaby, British Columbia\nLaboratory and industrial plant setting\nWorking Hours\nFull-time position, typically 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday\nMay include evening or weekend work as required\nWe Offer\nPurposeful work - we are developing breakthrough technology that transforms the way we produce clean hydrogen to combat climate change.\nIn addition, you will benefit from:\nCompetitive compensation, plus bonus and equity options\nExtended health and dental plan + health and wellness spending account\nFree parking\nGreat team to work with\nBe a part of our breakthrough environmental solution and apply today.\nThis compensation range takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant training or education, business and organizational needs.
