We're an early-stage team working at the intersection of electrochemistry, manufacturing, and deployment.About The Role\nWe are looking for a Lab Operations Coordinator to keep our Milton Park lab, workshop, and office running day to day.Most of your time goes on the lab: making sure it is clean, safe, and stocked with what the team needs, and that orders are placed and chased through to delivery. The rest is the general running of a small site - records, trackers, meeting and travel booking, deliveries and post, and the administration that comes with new starters.\nThis is a hands-on, practical role. You will be based on-site alongside our scientists and engineers, and you will be the person they rely on to make sure nothing the lab needs gets forgotten. You do not need a scientific background and you do not need to have done all of this before. If you have never raised a purchase order or maintained safety records, we will teach you. What we need is someone organised and reliable who follows things through without being chased.\nTasks\nKeeping the lab and site runningSupport the day-to-day running of the lab, workshop, and office so the environment is clean, safe, and ready to work in\nCoordinate routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs, and act as the point of contact for equipment engineers and contractors\nKeep housekeeping and waste management on track, including consumables disposal and the tidiness of shared areas\nMaintain basic equipment records - what we own, where it is, and when it was last serviced or calibrated\nProcurement and stockRaise purchase orders and process them through to delivery\nMonitor stock levels of lab and office consumables with the technical team, set reorder points, and place routine orders before things run out\nTrack supplier lead times and delivery dates, and chase late orders until they arrive\nCheck incoming deliveries against orders, and resolve shortages, wrong items, and damaged goods with the supplier\nGet quotes and set up new suppliers when the team needs something we do not currently buy\nRecords, deadlines, and follow-upKeep shared trackers and task lists up to date, send reminders, chase outstanding actions, and flag clearly when something is at risk of slipping\nMaintain filing and document templates on the shared drive\nHelp maintain health and safety records, with guidance from the technical team\nCollect receipts, invoices, timesheets, and figures when the team is preparing grant claims or project reports\nOffice and team supportMonitor the shared inbox, handle post and couriers, and receive visitors\nBook meetings and travel for the UK team, take notes, and circulate actions\nHandle basic HR administration for new starters - paperwork, equipment, and first-day setup\nEssential Skills\nOrganised and reliable - several things running at once, nothing forgotten\nYou notice when something is not right and take responsibility for getting it sorted, rather than waiting to be asked\nClear communicator - straightforward in writing, and comfortable telling a colleague at any level that something is overdue\nConfident with everyday business tools: email, spreadsheets, shared drives, calendars, and a task tracker\nComfortable moving between physical, hands-on work and computer-based work through the day\nAt ease in and around a laboratory and workshop environment - you do not need to be a scientist, but you should not be put off by a lab\nHappy in a role that is varied and practical, where the days are not identical\nRight to work in the UK\nDesirable Skills\nSome experience placing orders, raising purchase orders, or dealing with suppliers and deliveries\nSome experience in a lab, workshop, research group, university department, or other technical setting - including as an assistant, technician, or administrator\nBasic awareness of health and safety practices in a lab or workshop\nPrevious experience in a small business, SME, or startup\nBasic familiarity with an HR or people system\nYour profile\nYou are early in your career - roughly one to two years into working life - and you are looking for a practical, varied role where you can build real skills.Maybe you have been an administrator or assistant in a university department or research group, keeping the stock cupboard full and the paperwork straight. Maybe you have worked in an office where you ended up being the person who placed the orders and chased the deliveries because you were the one who actually followed up.
