This role primarily uses TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, gRPC, and Kubernetes. The Software Engineer will work closely with producers, designers, and other engineers to develop game systems, integrate platform services, and resolve technical issues to ensure a high-quality player experience. Working under the guidance of a Lead Engineer and/or Technical Director, the successful candidate will provide accurate task estimates, manage their time effectively, and deliver high-quality features and live-service support for a AAA free-to-play online title. The role also involves investigating live-service issues and collaborating with publishing partners to provide technical support and operational stability.\nKey Responsibilities\nResolve game server technical issues and help deliver stable, scalable, and reliable backend services.\n\nDevelop new features and maintain existing systems using TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, gRPC, and related technologies.\n\nInterpret game design and business requirements and implement backend systems and platform integrations.\n\nCollaborate closely with engineers, producers, and game designers to deliver the overall vision of the game.\n\nMaintain code quality through code reviews, testing, monitoring, and bug fixing.\n\nIntegrate and maintain third-party libraries, SDKs, and platform services.\n\nWork closely with publishing partners to support live-service operations and ensure service stability.\n\nRequired Technical Skills and Experience\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.\n\n7+ years of software development experience, preferably in the video game industry with live-service experience.\n\nStrong proficiency in Node.js, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.\n\nExperience developing backend systems and game services using modern web technologies, gRPC, and/or RESTful APIs.\n\nExperience operating and supporting live services in large-scale Kubernetes environments.\n\nExperience designing and developing scalable distributed systems and backend services.\n\nDemonstrated understanding of software engineering best practices.\n\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.\n\nExperience shipping at least one commercial video game title; live-service experience is a plus.\n\nAdditional Skills\nExperience with Redis, MongoDB, or similar data technologies is a plus.\n\nExperience designing, developing, or operating microservices architecture (MSA) systems is a plus.\n\nFamiliarity with cloud-native technologies and containerized service deployment is a plus.\n\nProficiency with modern AI-assisted and agentic engineering tools.\n\nPassion for video games and a commitment to creating high-quality player experiences.\n\nSoft Skills\nProficiency in Korean or English is preferred but not required.\n\nAbility to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.\n\nContinuously seeks opportunities to improve product quality and team productivity.\n\nAbility to quickly learn and apply new technologies, concepts, and solutions.\n\nDemonstrates strong ownership, accountability, and commitment to delivering results.\n\nAbout Electronic Arts\nWe’re proud to have an extensive portfolio of games and experiences, locations around the world, and opportunities across EA.
